This may sound weird but what do you do?

I've had several titles over the years, began as a couch bum, turned cowboy, turned truck driver, turned welder/tractor mechanic, turned sewer pipe installer, *got wise* joined the Navy, turned Fire Control Technician (guns and missiles, I made things go boom) and my latest (and longest held...

    Wiha screwdriver questions

As an electrical engineer for Japanese medical equipment company, I used to struggle to find metric screw drivers (and yes there is a difference) until someone turned me on to WiHa, nearly all of my toolbag is now WiHa, I love them.

    WWII Japanese sword

JamesE - it's chemical etching... hobby shop etching cream. The one I picked up is called "Armour etch" but there are several better brands, this is the only one I could get locally. I'm SO glad I did a couple trial runs, I'd have been pissed if I ruined the sward case with that first...

    WWII Japanese sword

First attempt... went by the instructions (mistake) also decided it was too large and over powering for the size of the box... (60 sec. soak) Second attempt... through the instructions away and just wingin' it, reduced the size by 50%... (5 min. soak)

    WWII Japanese sword

So I ended up buying a run of the mill sward display cabinet, but I'm going to put my own twist on it... I've already replaced the bright red fabric that was in it for some OD green felt, next I'm going to etch the 503rd patch into the front glass along with his rank and name. figured I'd...

    Trailer lock embedded in concrete?

At the family ranch in Cali... my Grandfather and I embedded a huge d-ring into the concrete of the pole barn that we used to chain down the welding trailer... didn't used to be that way, but one night someone decided they needed the batteries out of the tractor, the pickup, and the water...

SSgt. Michael S. Nalbandian, 503rd PRCT, 462 PFAB (not sure what company) combat jumped onto Corregidor, wounded on the parade grounds of the old fort, but was on the far end of the island when the Japanese garrison that was hiding in a bunker inside a hill, detontated the bombs they had stock...

    WWII Japanese sword

Not really garage, more office but most of you do incredible work (the rest just do awsome work)... I have a Japanese NCO sword taken from a soldier on the island of Corregidor by my Grandfather... Found it in his storage, story I got with it was he mailed it home from the island after they...

I use BSX gloves... http://shop.rockcitysafety.com/collections/welding-gloves/products/bs835-premium-deerskin-cowhide-stick-welding-gloves-red they say stick welding... but I use'm for my MIG, not bulky but yet heavy enough to keep me from burning my hands.

    Heavy Axle helping hand

Those are great, I've got a couple of them I use as jack stands under the rig itself... but they do not roll around, and the axle may be in and out of the chassis a dozen times before it's done so I needed something that rolls... I seriously considered making it taller, but decided against it...

    Heavy Axle helping hand

1/4" tubing would be stronger but way too bulky, 1/4 plate will get me plenty of strength but yet thin enough to slip into and around brackets. Cradles are on my buddies table, should be cut out by the end of the week, he's gonna slip them in amongst his regular batch cuts. I got the pinion...

    Heavy Axle helping hand

The cradles are 2.5" radius (up to 5" dia. axle tube)... the pinion support will have a 2" radius (up to a 4" pinion dia.) Anything bigger than that i don't need a helping hand I need a crane. LOL! The spec's on the jeep are: 1998 Wrangler Sahara: replaced the motor(blow'd it up, hydro-lock...

    Heavy Axle helping hand

Couple of my concept drawings... plans are to either powder coat or paint it Miller Electric blue... The pinion support will be a piece of all-thread to prop up the pinion and set the angle, the neck will be adjustable along the backbone so that I can use the cart for front or rear axles.

    Heavy Axle helping hand

I needed a way to move these heavy a$$ axles around... I can't take full credit for the design, I saw something similar on a site (forget which one, probably Pirate4x4)... so I came up with this. it is based on the HF 1000lbs. engine stand, got it on sale for 59.99... cut the engine rotation...
