Craftsman Tool Exchange Issues, Anybody else?

Just took my 1972 vintage round head 3/8" ratchet into a sears store which is slated to liquidate in the latest round announced last week. They did not have any replacements in store according to a young counter person. A semi retired part time worker came over looked at the ratchet and said let...

Lowes Craftsman Ad, Available April 2nd

I just checked out Lowes web site. Did a search for Craftsman. Two sets came up, one 51 piece 6 point socket set and a second 81 piece set. The pictures match the ones noted prior in this post. Picture of the set looks nice. Won't know the actual quality until they are in stock at the stores to...

What’s your favorite measuring tape and why?

I just picked up a Craftsman Sidewinder. The main housing lays flat. Tape doesn't twist, the tape measure does not tip over in use. It seemed gimmicky at first but works well.

    Fond Memories of Sears?

Certainly bittersweet. We lived in a rural area where Sears was a catalog store with all of the catalogs. My dad and went in 1972 the week after I graduated from high school he helped me pick out a 220 piece mechanics tool set and a rollaway cabinet with top chest before I started vo-tech school...

    Pittsburgh tools?

Certainly agree, as with anything one can purchase you need to be aware of quality when you purchase. My post was not meant to knock any ones opinions or choice in tools. Just my recent experience in HF and my noting that they seemed to have a better grade of tool in the Pro's now. I would agree...

    Pittsburgh tools?

I have been a tried and true "Made in the USA" Craftsman guy since I got my first set for HS graduation in 1972. Sold off most of my original craftsman tools when I quit wrenching in 1976. Four years ago this coming June I put up a three car garage as a workshop and found myself having to buy...

    Craftsman Made in USA Tools

Just browsing my local rural Minnesota ACE Hardware stores Craftsman Tool section. While looking at 1" and above combination wrenches I found 1 1/16" through 1 5/16" stamped forged in the USA!! Scooped the four of them up. Anyone else having success finding Made In USA Craftsman tools while...

Apron in front of garage.. to pave or crete?

Concrete for sure. Just redid my old asphalt driveway last August. Converted to concrete, no more asphalt to shrink by the garage slab.

Garage cabinet painting - color suggestions

I just finished painting some older metal cabinets. Mine are done agricultural tractor colors to match my 1939 Allis Chalmers, complete with decals. Pick a theme which matches what you intend to do most in your garage. Make sure you take the gloss off and prime any spots of bare metal. Good Luck

    Toolbox Paiting Help

Repainted two vintage craftsman boxes. Sanded well with 600 grit, removed any rust with a wheel. Primed with a zinic based primer. So far so good, about two months post project now. I have included a picture of the completed roll away and an in progress picture of the top chest.

    cleaning toolbox

Just did my craftsman rollaway and top box. Here is what worked for me: Sanded it down, went down to bare metal for any rust areas. Cleaned the box with denatured alcohol. Used a good Krylon zinc based primer, and Krylon hammered silver and banner red for paint.

Bondhus pro hold vs Wiha magic ring

Bondhus tools are still made in the USA in Minnesota. I actually worked for them in the early 1980's. I have several sets from them which are 25 years old. They still work great. If the quality is as good now as when I worked there I would go with them.

    Anybody still supporting Craftsman

My folks got me my first craftsman 220 piece tool set as a high school graduation gift. Still have much of the set. Just finished up a brake job on my sons family van with them. I have pretty good luck picking up Craftsman made in the USA stuff at auctions and such. Plan to split the set up some...

    1975 Craftsman Top Chest Restoration

Joe Thanks, I hope the paint holds up, seems to have a pretty finish. Just finished loading it up with my hand tools this afternoon. The new boxes feel so flimsy compared to the 1970s stuff.
