Joe, nice job on the Willy 500s. I have 2 of them (both 1971s) but painted them hammered Verde Green. But I do really like that light blue you used also. I usually paint my Palmgrens that color. Bill

hot rod garage in the works. 38x56

I agree Eric, VFDs are the way to make 3-phase for home shops. I could never see the point of having a 2nd (slave) motor running all the time in the background whenever you want to fire up a 3-phase tool. My entire shop is full of old industrial 3-phase machines and I have VFDs on them all. The...

Shiftless, its probably not the bore that is the problem. But it is easy to measure with bore gauges. All machinists will have them and any shops that rebuild engines. I have several Willy bullets and none have close enough tolerances to cause sticking. My guess is the keyway. Either there is...

Nice find on the Heavy 10 there Kris. What year was it born? I have 2 SB 11x60 lathes ... 1929 and 1931. The '31 is in storage, but the '29 is still working like it was new. Great lathes. Bill

Thanks Kris. I will order a TIG finger right away. Seems like a great add. I've been into all my local welding/gas supply shops in town and while they carry both Tillman and Miller gloves, none of them stock the Tillman 24D (or C) or the Miller TIG glove. Everything they seem to carry in stock...

I gotta get me one of those TIG Fingers! Kris, I have a question on gloves. How'd you settle on the Tillman 24D? Have you tried Millers TIG glove? This one ... www.millerwelds.com/products/welding_protection/hand_body/welding_gloves/performance/tig/ Bill

Yup, its an Asian import. I have a 5" one on my welding table that sees a good deal of welding abuse ;) They work as long as you don't need to tighten on anything too much ... or pound on the part being held. Unless you want to see what your import looks like in pieces :dunno: A rusty...

Thanks for the info Kris. Really appreciate it. I don't normally weld over 1/4" material very often, but when I do, I would always use my 225A stick welder anyway. The TIG would definately be for everything 3/16 and lighter. For sure I want AC/DC so I can also weld aluminum. A local guy is...

Kris, I love your metal shop and the custom work you're doing. I'm in the market for a small 180-225A AC/DC TIG for light use in my home machine shop and immediately thought of your thread here and wondered what you were using to lay down such nice work. So tonight I spent time (a lot) starting...

Just a word of caution guys on vice handles. There's nothing wrong with making a super-strong and/or longer handle for your vice, but keep in mind that well made vices (I'm not speaking of asian variety here) utilize handles "soft enough" to bend well before the breaking point of those cast iron...
