    Insulated Garage door

+1 If there is one law in the world of garages, it is "You never accurately anticipate what you will do". When you suddenly decide to start a project in the middle of the winter, or perhaps one that was thrust upon you at an inopportune time, you will dearly bless the day that you invested in...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Froze my *** off making a bushing for a recliner chair. I hate winter!!!

    found a jar of mercury?

Keep it. You wouldn't want to try to buy it today. Ya just never know what may come along that would make it useful. Don't let the EPA Nazi's scare you off. It's a treasured find. Treat it as such. I, too, am one of those people that took it to class and rolled it around on everybody's...

Recomend a online small engine parts store

Just as an observation....while there were many posts about all the great sites with great prices, the OP clearly posted his location, and that was the major consideration. Great price with an arm and a leg for shipping was not what he was looking for.

Quote to Sheetrock Ceiling in Garage

Many local fire codes spec 5/8" for the lid, and 24" OC is certainly no problem. I did the same, and that was 15 years ago. 16' ceiling height. Blew R50 into the ceiling above, and all is well. No sag, no problems. Don't get me wrong....the garage still gets cold, but only because I chose...

    24 vrs 26

ditto, ditto, ditto When I built the house, I blew mine out 6', and now, 14 years later, I wonder what was I thinking? I would have taken it out 15' more, and another 10' on the back, but that was then, and I have to live with what I thought was going to be more than enough. I wasn't familiar...

    HF 2.5L ultrasonic cleaner modifications

New carbs for those things are around $30 to $40. The rebuild kits are about $10. I've learned to have a new or rebuilt one on the shelf. When it starts giving you trouble, toss the old one up on the workbench for future rebuild, grab the new/rebuilt one, slap it on and keep going. Stopping...

    Buying your stuff two times

Take it from an old divorce lawyer......there is a sure fire way to prevent that problem. Just don't do it. Today, it's not a big deal living together. Why would anybody want to say "I do"? Remember this.....when you stand at that alter, there are three entities present...you, her, and the...

    Stuck Bolt - ideas?

Heat, and lots and lots of Kroil, then patience. If necessary you can weld on a nut to get a better grip for the air ratchet.

    8" or 6" bench grinder

He's right. You can't make one do what the other will do. They are two different, but necessary, animals.

Why do some pole barns have their poles set in concrete and others don't?

The utility pole comments on here are correct, and having spent a little time inspecting those things, I have to say they are pretty amazing (some going back to the 40's).....BUT all that having been said, they are highly pressure treated with some chemical compounds (some now outlawed), now...

I would certainly think this would be far more preferable than a "live" chicken. :D

Was this just for framing and can I remove it?

Along with the 15A outlets, don't forget a couple of handy 240V, as well. Air outlets, optional. I dismissed the air outlets when I was building reasoning that I didn't know where the cabinets, workbenches, etc. were going to land, so it was too much trouble. Big mistake. I'm now running...

plywood on the inside wall of red iron

Very nicely done. I had never considered taping and mudding plywood. Course with the cost of it these days, especially 3/4", I can see why I never thought of it. Well done.:rocker:

Fixing 'bad' drywall tape? (BIG PICTURES)

You may also like to develop a little skill with a spray bottle of water. Bone dry joints don't get along very well with mud. Keep things wet and damp. The smoothing goes a whole lot easier.

    Vise repair

+1 That's as good of a fix as it comes. Turn the nut round for the depth of the press, leaving a little shoulder that you can weld/braze just for insurance. You're back in bizness......all for a buck and a little time on the weekend. :bounce:

    My new shop press

As has been said many times....it's one of those tools that generally sits in the corner collecting dust, but when you need it.....there is no substitute. Good work!

Puring new driveway. Is wire mesh needed?

No matter which way you go on reinforcing, just keep it wet after the pour. Out here in Az., I was stuck with curing compound on top. Not my first choice, but I was on a mountaintop with limited water. I also did not let the contractor knock the forms down until a week later. The side of the...
