    Milwaukee 1/2 M18 Impact👍

I’ll second this. Home Depot has enough buy one get one sales online that a little patience can net a cheaper price or a free battery. I’d guess every two weeks the HD site rotates through the 1/2” mid torque.

    Greasing a grinder

My monthly trip to HF today yielded a cordless Hercules paddle switch grinder in the clearance section. It appears to be unused and is another tool I wanted to test out for employee use. Before I used it I wanted to see if lubing the gears would quiet it down some. I’ve opened up my M18...

Feasibility of 3/8" drive sockets replacing 1/4" drive sockets for car and motorcycle maintenance

I wrenched on bikes for probably 15 years in the evenings and on weekends, rebuilt engines, maintenance, parted out junkers, before I ever owned a full 1/4 set. I had my deep SO 6pt set in 3/8 and an F936 then an F80 and a set of Motion Pro T handles. I used a 1/4 drive socket on a thumb wheel...

    Build a hemp house

I had one landlord ask me not to plant hemp on his property anymore. One of his neighbors was unhappy that his(the neighbors) kids were sneaking into my crop to steal a few plants. I guess I’ll be known as the guy with crappy weed.

    Build a hemp house

I raised hemp under a USDA license for three years, pre 2019. It does grow, produces a massive volume of material. That material is very hard on harvesting and baling equipment. I was never offered enough real money to keep growing it. I would be interested to see how those blocks compare to...

I talked myself into buying the Icon 1/4 and 3/8 sockets sets but the ratchets look like ****

I love the Icon kits to grab for jobs but EVERY time I try to use the included ratchet it lets me down. The accidental direction switch trick makes them useless to me. I’ve picked up two cases recently that had the Icon sockets switched for craftsman so I’m going to modify the foam to fit my...

Anybody find it difficult not to buy tools?

I just turned down a $15 M18 non fuel grinder on the as-is shelf at a pawn shop. I’ve bought plenty of parts tools and it often takes an hour or more to fix each of them. If I bill myself for the time it takes to diagnose and fix a tool, I’m within spitting distance of a new one with warranty.

    Home Depot sales

I thought about that after I wrote it. I still stand by the concept that battery tools are easier on inventory and easier to get the average customer to use. I have piles of gas weed eaters I’ve been given over the years and know of piles more for free.

    Home Depot sales

I’m pretty sure Depot House is more concerned with customer experience and lost revenue from gas powered vehicles not selling season to season. Battery equipment can sit on a shelf til next spring. Maybe a gas version leaks a bit or won’t start as easily on year old fuel. I personally switched...

    Home Depot sales

Their sales are cyclical. Every two weeks or so it outdoor power equipment. Just have to watch the website.

    Augmented Arc Reality Welding Machine

I tried one at a trade show several years ago. Not a 1:1 replacement for the real thing but definitely mimics the muscle movements and gives plenty of sensory feedback to the novice. I’d love to have one for first time high school welding students to get a feel for the equipment they’ll be using.

    Show your oiler cans

Interesting on the history. I can only guess whether this one came with the bend. I would guess it was originally straight.

Coming to L.A /L.V what harbour freight is the best ?

I plan trips with Harbor Freight in mind. If I buy equipment or vehicles out of my area, I’m assured I can pick up what I forget or find that I need. Last time I was in Vegas , maybe three years ago, was for the Mint 400. The crew needed a few things like flush cutters, cheap headlamps and...

    Hf 27” cab question

I forgot to look during my last monthly trip to HF, but is it possible to buy two 27” cabs and make one all deep drawers for a power tool cabinet and make the other almost all shallow drawers for a poor man’s Lista copy for small parts storage? I’m only interested in the narrow cab for this...

Anybody find it difficult not to buy tools?

We are at a unique juncture in America. I’m at ground zero working for an asset heavy family business. Hard assets are all but unattainable for the money I generate every year. I could probably service payments for less than a tenth of the value of our farm and that would be with zero down...

Just checked and they do. $8 Now if I can just remember which cabinet I stuck the tape to!

    Bauer tape measure hack

In a moment of weakness I purchase one of these for my desk. Don’t remember the price but I do remember feeling like I was doing my SO guy a favor and padding his bottom line. I was looking for something like these. I didn’t see them in my searches and we don’t have Menards out here. Even...

Let’s see the industrial plant mechanic tool bags

A hammer or weighted dowel also works. Just something to gauge the bounce of each tire in relation to its peers. Saves pulling out a tire gauge every morning. The road alligators you've seen probably come from older re-caps going away.

    Bauer tape measure hack

This is our parts room. Lots of metal shelving and cabinets to stick it to and nary a sliver of stray metal.
