Best type of welding to get into for working on car

I started out on MIG for car frame repairs and ended up moving more to TIG once I got better at that, which I find easier to control for thin panels and whatnot.

    Garringtons tools (made in england)

I found a few Kestrels locally last week: More pics here. While I was reading up on them I made a list of all of the hand tools I could find of theirs - anyone know of any I'm missing (list is halfway down page)...

Nice work there! That’s a great looking vice.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Cleaned up and repainted the dynamic and static jaws of my new-to-me Dawn vice... seems that my Evaporust has finally stopped working after quite a lengthy run, need to go get some more to help clean up the jaws.

Tough Pelican type storage case - Brand?

I took a bunch of pics of a Pelican 1514 here and a 1614 here and the above pictured case has a few differences - the padlock hole has metal added on all the Pelicans I have had, and there's a red label beneath the vent. There should also be a small printed section with the brand on the top...

    A Shed Downunder.

VERY jealous on those Dawn stands - I have been watching local sales for those for years and not ever seen one. Nice score.

Hadn't heard of Ess-Vee before I found this one locally: Didn't much like it, particularly not after being spoilt with some nice Dawns of late. https://motofaction.org/tool-reviews/ess-vee-100mm-bench-vice-vise-restoration-review/

I like the pipe idea... I went looking for pipe before I went for the flat bar but all I had was stuff that was way too small. Next time I'm at the metal supplier I might pick some up just for that. Found a vice that's a keeper - been wanting a SG Dawn for soooo long and picked one up locally...

Very happy... managed to find this for for a bargain locally - slightly rusty but given they retail for around $700 I can deal with a little bit of cleaning... Spheroidal graphite iron! Dawn bill these as unbreakable... based on how good their SG clamps have been in use, I'm pretty happy to...

I have arthritis in my hands, and the movements involved with the clamp are less costly than using safety wire. For most, I imagine that you’re right. :)

For my hands the sash clamp is quicker and easier - but I like that idea too, that’ll be handy for those vices where the clamp method wouldn’t be as straight forward.

Also found some Carter clamps last week, cleaned one up and did it in a modern-Dawn-ish colour to see how I liked it: Can't find out much solid on the Carter company (like brochures etc.) other than a little bit on the Oz hand tools page, and that's mostly about planes with a few pics of...

Another vice from last week; This one is a 6SP, which is 1" bigger than the one above. Worst nick this time around. I think I'm the third owner of this one - I'm pretty sure it's at least a decade older than the one above based on the stories from the previous owners. More pics...

JC's tool restorations and reviews Hi all; Edit: Updated the title to reflect the fact that I'll post reviews up in here too. Thought I'd post up a thread showing the restorations I have happening here. Rather than clutter up the entire thread with thousands of pics I'll link to a page with...

Hub Caps - practical uses as well as Garage decorations

Re: the first images... the Columbia Motor Car Company (Hartford, Connecticut) had a micrometer and calipers as part of their logo, but no wings from what I can find... haven't seen any other manufacturer use a micrometer in their logo!

    An ugly Plomb spinner rat

It's really quite good stuff, and it's re-usable quite a few times so for the $$$ you get a fair bit of use out of it.

What happens when you add volume to oil-less compressor?

What’s the duty cycle of the compressor? It’ll be attempting to fill a lot more than it would on just its original cylinder and I think that it’d be pretty easy to overwork it.
