Nice folding table! Will you provide a link to the brackets?

I don't take a minute for granted. She's a handful, but so sweet. Plus, she has the same love for cars and the outdoors as I do. I can't even move the Jeep into the garage without her wanting to "drive" it. There is no way to get the shed out of the back yard without disassembling it. It's...

    The Wild Oak Garage Brewery

Sllloooooowww progress. We got our last window installed on Friday, and we can finally start putting the last bits of furniture back where they belong. I have the day off tomorrow, and plan to clear out the shed and inspect the flooring to make sure I can use the base in my new build. I was...

    The Wild Oak Garage Brewery

No huge updates. We had new windows installed through the house. Well, mostly. The installers dropped one of the windows off the trailer, and the replacement is on order. My wife has wanted new windows since we moved in, and I've resisted for over 10 years. When my weedeater threw a rock...

    The Wild Oak Garage Brewery

I've been threatening to build a new shed since we moved into this house. I hate the barn roof, as it allows no usable wall-hanging space, and the build quality is ****. The concrete slab it rests on is 10'x10' but the building is 10'x12'. When I tear it down, I'm hoping the foundation and...

Our laundry room is one of the last rooms to update, and is next on the list to accommodate the upright freezer. I have the stacking kit for the washer/dryer, and plan to reroute the dryer vent. I plan to use IKEA cabinets here, which I've used throughout the house. Each of the cabinets...

    The Wild Oak Garage Brewery

I bought myself a Harbor Freight 44" tool chest for Christmas this year to begin my garage organization. I've been placing tools to figure out the best layout, and am pleased with the space so far. There are several empty drawers right now, which I'll find good use for. I cut down a...

    The Wild Oak Garage Brewery

Let's get this started! This typical urban ranch-style house, 20'x26' attached 2-car garage, built in 1974, was purchased by us in 2006. I've been using and abusing the space for over 10 years, and it's time to get it organized. This may be a slow process, but I've made some good first steps...

Wow, great work on the R8! I'll keep my eye out for it around town.

    Restoring my grandfather's vise

Well, I think I can call it DONE! I contacted Wilton and had a terrific experience from their staff. While they couldn't identify the approximate year, they did confirm it was "very old" and a good example of the Wilton 1644 Utility Vise. They sent several decals so I could determine how best...

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

I like that idea, but I'm right up against the easement on one side, so I'd have to put the 2' on the other side.

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

The current slab is about 12" thick. It's been there a while, so it's not all exposed, but the front is easily 10" to ground. Wow, very good point. I will need to look into this. My understanding is that if the structure is 120 sqft or less, it's outside taxation, or even codes, as long as...

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

There's not a ton of soil, period. We have a few inches of dirt, then rock. I'll be bringing in a pro to take a look, but our area hasn't had much issue with movement and expansion. Certainly something to keep in mind, though.

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

Thanks! This is helpful. Basically, if I use the existing slab, plan for a 2-4" rise (which would put the floor almost to level it is now on the skids. If I tear out and build a new slab, I can make it whatever height I want. In the end, I'm trying to get as much height from the final shed...

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

Drilling the old slab for rebar makes sense. Since I want the floor to be seamless, all 120 sqft would need a new top layer of concrete. Would the existing slab top need to be scored, drilled, or broken up to ensure good adhesion of new concrete, or just an extra layer of rebar, forms, and...

    Concrete Slab for Shed Help

I currently have a 10'x12' barn-style shed in my backyard that needs to be replaced. It's built on skids, and the previous owners had it installed many years ago on a 10'x10' concrete foundation, so the rear 2' hangs off the end, and is supported by blocks. Functionally, it's fine, but it's...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Awesome Ramcharger! I look forward to seeing the final product! We had a 1985 version that we took on vacation every year. As an only kid, I was able to lounge across that huge back seat. Lots of good memories.

    Restoring my grandfather's vise

Success! I finally found the e-clip at Pep Boys, of all places. I greased up the internals, and was finally able to reassemble the vise. I'm pleased how it turned out. Thanks for following along on my little restoration. I have contacted Wilton to see if they can give me the...

    Restoring my grandfather's vise

It's just a trick of the eye. Most of the texture you're seeing IS the imperfections. That's really by design - I want most of the character to come through. I did not prime first, just prepped the bare metal as best I could.
