    Plywood suggestions for workbench top

I see all ply quality getting worse every year. 8 or 10 yrs ago the 9 ply I would use for drawer construction (apple ply) I only wish I could get today! I do work tops several ways, using 1 1/4-1 1/2 industrial board cover with laminate or epoxy coated then edged with hardwood or white melamine...

    Garage Makeover---Advice Appreciated

Good thing you said "car",not the plural...was thinking that's way too much and still get two cars. lol For that diversity of stuff maybe a custom mobile rack(s) for some of it in case you get another car down the road?

    Drywall/ wood gap

For an inside garage job like that just paintable latex caulk on the small cracks. Deep/wide gaps (over 1/4") I prefer a urethane caulk (np1, vulkum, etc..). Best anyway to have a few tubes of each when doing that sorta stuff. Do small cracks first then cut tube down for wider gaps. Finger is...

Corner edge porch washing away (w/ pics)

Also, question: Did the issue with the concrete start or correlate in any way with grading the earth up (ramp) up like that? Good idea to take note when you dig down fixing concrete whether dirt there is wet or dry.

Corner edge porch washing away (w/ pics)

Easy fix for the loose concrete, but problem still exists with that "earth ramp" you have going on there. The siding on left being so low is the issue, with grade sloping to it is inviting termites and rot. Small retaining wall? Maybe, but see some possible issues there too. I'd tear that...

    Post hole idea

Interesting, but too bad so pricey ($115.00ea). Apparently been around 10 years or so but I haven't heard about them before and never seen them used myself.

    Trusting contractors and subs

I sleep better having IP video recording 24/7 in addition to alarms and extra insurance. Police typ just fill out report and want to be done with it, I want to know happened and who done it. ....without video I would have never seen that county snowplow take out my mailbox, which they...

Old farm house, thinking about attaching a garage...

Doing addition requires a lot more design effort as compared to just a detached. There is the added challenge of blending it in to the house style so it doesn't just look like an add on.

Corner edge porch washing away (w/ pics)

Yeah, ditto. Likely it was never compacted to begin with also. Looks like easy fix to just pack some conc mix in there after cleaning it out, but need to correct the cause which looks to be run off. OP, You might get a PIC standing back some so whole stoop area is in view. Something does not...

    Compacting base for slab

It is getting too common to see construction where the site was dug out today and poured tomorrow. Good compaction cost additional time and money so like every other aspect of our society it's on the chopping block. Takes an informed buyer like yourself to get it done right these days.

    Insulating Garage Door

Might check out white scrim. Comes in rolls and has a matching tape (sticks incredibly well). No weight, easy to replace if damaged or patch w/ matching tape if torn, low cost per sf.etc... I used perforated white to cover my cathedral ceiling insul job but haven't gotten around to doing the...

    Open garage doors

What you want is some kind of feedback at receiver showing status of each door if it's in the up or down position? Seems simple enough. Maybe a light panel with simple ckt. that looks at the electronic eye signal of ea door. If it's an attached garage and you can wire it, I would always favor...

28x40 garage wall falls who to blame???

It is a tough business. I have passed many a GC job for lack of trusted sub's and instead only offer what I myself can do (and control quality of). It's also a disturbing trend that's been getting worse for a long time. See it in all business's too, eliminate the knowledgeable employee's and...

Started with no end in sight 30X40X12 pole building

Nice job! Anxious to see your progress. Like the overhangs, two tone and colors. Door trims add a nice touch. Interesting re getting permit for the breezway, lol. Have to remember that trick! Clearly you did your homework. I would do some proper landscaping along side's so mowers don't do...

    Replacement Screws?

Ceiling- I did mine as you say. Take a look at my album as what you want I did and it's been 5yrs no problems. I do however have a ridge (fiberglass) skylight sealed well and multiple layers of additional clear poly built inside so it is possible I get some vapor exit thru it. Hard to know. Had...

    Fascis and gutter questions

Personally I would only run metal roof to 1/3 the gutter width past facia, but opinions prob vary on that. Too much and can't get your hand in to clean out...Get some cheap gutter guards or some foam that cover's just the drop holes and then not such a worry as often. Even those cheapo screened...

    Replacement Screws?

Kels, Could have been a misunderstanding where what they really meant was to just fill the area as full as framing allowed (not over pack) as you would think a metal building company would know better....but these day's companies fire the smart people so they can hire cheaper know nothing...

New Garage Floor - Basic Spill Protection

With tight $ situation and concrete being new I would do the sealer. That sealer in the long run will hide better and make cleanups much easier. Smart of you to be doing it now, but didn't the conc guys offer to do a sealer when they poured?
