That is the crookedest horn on an anvil I've ever seen. Must have been broken out of the mold too soon. I can't think of a way you could do that yourself without breaking it off, which does happen. So when are we going to see a hot oil dipped anvil? Nuts aka Doug

I seem to remember a pic of a 5' pole that was a safety stop, to keep the lift from settling. I think that these brackets are the same thing on a smaller scale. If you used a 4x4 out of steel or pressure treat, the slots on the pair of angles would let you turn the post either horizontal or...

Nice to see some print showing up under that rust. The Hay Budden anvils are one of the most sought after. Sometimes the serial numbers are on the bottom of the feet. If I remember correctly anvils are cast upside down, then have the hard face top forged in place. Not sure if you've decided...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Warg, here you go, Anvil Shooting. To me the anvil looks like a Peter Wright or a Hay Budden. But I would think that those two brands would be marked. On a lot of the older anvils, the writing appears to be stamped instead of cast, and due to the hard use, the sides get pretty well beat up...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Current reasonable pricing on older anvils, that aren't broken or having the top separating, are going for $2 to $3 a pound. Most of the guys won't do more than a powered wire brushing, no paint. I'd then wipe it down with a solvent to get the dry rust off, and hammer away. And you might want...

Thomas Take a look on the side of your anvil, there will most likely be a name and 3 numbers that will give you the weight in a British term called hundred weight. Here's a link with a converter Anvil Weight Calculator If there's is no markings, take a few close up pics and I'll post them on...

Hullo Thomas and Chris This will teach me to disappear since Nov 21st, 16 new pages of shop goodness and tools, tools, tools. BigBlock is spot on about the adjustable wrench. I think the Ford Model A versions all had the square on the end of the handle. Here's a link to what a 31 Ford tool...

Usually the owners of old time shops sold all the metal scrap to the recyclers. and you always got more money selling "cleaned" scrap metal. That piston looks like it didn't get close enough to the middle of the fire. A not to efficient way to separate the iron from the aluminum. Nuts
