    Heavy Duty Motion Sensor

I've got 7 fixtures on the front of my barn that each have a CFL light inside them. I'd like it if they all came on when motion is detected, as my kids ride bikes in the late evening or I walk to the workshop. I know there are individual fixtures that have flood lights that turn on, and I've...

Mr. Heater Big Maxx Pressure Switch CAB Solution

That vacuum switch doesn't need much vacuum, you can produce the required vacuum with your mouth. Hooking a mityvac to the switch has the potential to damage that delicate switch. Glad you got your heater fixed.

Ha Ha! adamhoward probably found that thread by a search for cloudy water faucet and then replied. I wonder if the faucet for the original poster every cleared up.

    Concrete and a lift???

I remember reading information in your thread about concrete thickness, and when I poured the slab in the lift area of my barn / garage, I had them pour the slab under the lift 8-10" thick and used anchors that were 10" long x 3/4" diameter. It was WAY too strong but I've never regretted the...

    Tin roof leak

I 100% agree. This was shot from within 300 yards horizontally in my opinion. I found a 30-30 bullet in one of my beehives last spring in my back yard. That's what I get for living near some trashy neighbors.

    Propane sticker shock

I used to pay that when I only had a 100 gallon tank for the house that was a rented tank. I called them and asked "how can I get the best fuel costs and rates?" and they said that if I owned my own tank that was 500 gallons, they would fill it regularly and give me the best price which was...

What's your shop temp inside and out?

After the kids are in bed is "my time" and I go out and work in my shop almost every night on one thing or another. That's the best time to be out there. It's dark outside, but I'm in my warm shop with my tools and QUIET. There's no crying or whining or tantrums in my workshop. And there is...

What's your shop temp inside and out?

My garage / barn is big and there are two sections. One is 75x40 and I keep it at 40 degrees no matter what using two Mr. Heater Big Maxx propane heaters. The shop is insulated well. The walls and ceiling are at R19 and the big footprint of the shop keeps it at 55 degrees most of the winter...

Mr. Heater Big Maxx Pressure Switch CAB Solution

My Mr. Heater Big Maxx has been running perfectly for years. Two days ago it stopped working. Symptom: Thermostat calls for heat, then the exhaust fan runs, and then 20 seconds later it turns off, and the LED is blinking three times over and over, which is the message for Exhaust Pressure...

To Pour or Not to Pour ......Slab

My guys had a week of 60+ degree weather in the winter with no freezing predicted and they went ahead and poured and it went very well. They covered it and then babied it with moisture / etc... It's lovely now 4 years later. I trusted my "moderately expensive" crew and they knew their jobs...

    40X80 in Florida

My architect convinced me to add more personnel doors and I was grateful for his suggestion. Also, if you can have them add the necessary plumbing for a water supply, utility sink, etc, it's worth it.

Using a champion 9000watt generator for whole house

Thank you all for the good replies! I'm going to investigate the interlock switch method and see if that will work. I like that idea.

Using a champion 9000watt generator for whole house

Ok, So on MY house I have a 22kw Generac standby generator that turns on when the power goes off from the grid. Also I run 23.8kw of solar power from 77 panels that generally power my home and barn and it's a grid-tie system. That being said, I know electricity, and I know generators...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Fixed my kids bike that got run over last weekend *kid was not on the bike*. Having a nice organized shop with the right tools in place made the repair a 4 minute task instead of a 1 hour task fighting with the wrong tools and trying to find things.

    OH OH.....and it smells...

My friend's Dad has a small cabin / hunting cabin in Stuart's Draft, about 23 miles from here, and when they were remodeling the bathroom about 20 years ago, a skunk got in the bathroom and got behind the bathtub enclosure and hid quietly one night. The next day, without knowing the skunk was...

Variety of lines in underground conduit

Thanks so much for the links to the goods! I'm just now starting to learn about fiber optic cables, and I guess what you need is TWO cables with both ends terminating in one of the housings you suggested. That's fine. Also, I already have a smart switch down in the barn...

    Transition Ramp

I like your ramps, but from my experience there is some floor leveling epoxy that might fill your ramp-gap well without your ramps needed. That being said, if your ramps are steel, they will rust. At a minimum have them powder coated or paint them if you can. And, Tapcon screws are "ok"...

    can I cross pex?

I think that some sort of soft barrier might be advantageous to keep them from rubbing during heating and cooling, but I've found pex to be robust when touching other pex lines in open air. Under concrete might be different. Give it a barrier or cushion to be safe.
