This is what I want to build. Please comment

But there are no floor joists because there's a lift there. Also the floor joists, should they exist, should be parallel to the rafters, and the gable end wouldn't need the strength in that direction.

I can see the insulation thing. Another thing I thought of is it doesn't look like you have rafter ties over your lift, and a top plate on that gable end might help keep the walls from spreading, especially with heavy snow loads.

Why balloon framing? I'd guess 2x6s long enough to reach the peak would be pricey enough to pay for a top plate, and just scabbing extensions on the gable end studs like my old house has seems like more of a pain in the *** than it's worth. Conventional framing with precut studs and top and...

    Compressor outlet? box?

The question was can I run a 15.7 A rated motor with a 14 ga cord on a 20 A breaker, or should it be 15A. I'm gonna put a 20A in. The second question was do I leave the neutral (white) or the ground (green) unconnected to the receptacle. I'm gonna hook up the ground.

    Compressor outlet? box?

Yeah, I had to do some looking and driving for it. I didn't want one of the popular 60 gal stationary because I want it under a corner cabinet which is too low for the 60 gal. Puma makes a 40 gal vertical which would fit, but it's more money, and had to be shipped for another hundred bucks or...

    Compressor outlet? box?

yeah, the receptacle is rated 20a, so I can't go bigger than that. I just wondered about 20 being too much for the cord.

    Compressor outlet? box?

ok, thanks. I reckoned 20a breaker, but like I said, the 14ga cord threw me.

    Compressor outlet? box?

Bought this compressor. It comes equipped with a NEMA 6-20 plug on a 14 ga cord. This plug has only 3 prongs, and the corresponding outlet (which I've already bought and have on hand) has 3 connections, 2 gold and a green. I've been led to believe that the proper way to connect the outlet is to...

    Take on reel push mower

Lots of Amish folks around here, and apparently lawn mowing is the responsibility of the women and kids; at least, they're the only ones I've ever seen mowing. Saw a young girl using a push mower out in the boonies, she was small enough the handle was barely below her armpits, the lawn was...

    I can strip the heads.

    Did you OSB?

7/16 osb is under 8 bucks at my home depot. 1/2 drywall drywall is 10.

    Did you OSB?

35 bucks a sheet compared to 8? I'd call that more than a little spendy.

    Crazy bright LED Flood lights

Re: Crazybright LED Flood lights Damn. There sure is a lot of bs in the lighting market. This thread triggered my memory to the old magazine ads for a 1 million candlepower hand held spotlight (12v, I think), so I checked how candlepower compares to lumens. 1 cp=12.57 lm. So a 12,570,000 lm...

Anyone have some snow blower knowledge for me?

I'm no help at all, other than to say the daily newspaper will cause these symptoms when it can't be found because of the snow. Edit: That's pretty easy to see in there, though.

    Finally finishing out the shop

As far as insulation, I won't buy the cheap stuff any more, it's way worse for shedding tiny bits which get into one's skin and lungs. The Panther's was way easier to work with.

    Custom can crusher IDEAS ..

I don't get how crushing cans facilitates putting extra weight in. It seems like crushing wouldn't leave any space; you'd have to put the sand in one grain at a time. If you put sand in first, then the can wouldn't crush, and should obviously have sand in it.

    Post your Garage Cat here

Edit: Sorry for hijacking the thread. I think that's skunk damage. They're after Japanese beetle larvae (grubs). The grubs eat the roots of the sod, which makes it easy for the skunks to roll it up like a carpet and chow down. It's a big problem at the golf course I volunteer at. We treat the...
