    Building inspector never showed.

When we built our house, an eight month long project, the inspector never once came by. My builder kept saying he hoped the inspector would come by so he could talk to him. As far as I’m concerned, the permitting/fees was nothing more than a shakedown/revenue generating scam run by the city.

    Grading a 2 acre lot?

If there’s not enough grade to drain it on the surface (which I would think would be unlikely), you could install subsurface drain tile. Install the Perforated drain tile on a grade to ultimately drain into a sump. Install a lift pump in the sump and pump the water wherever you need it to go. I...

What do you wish you had done differently when you built your shop?

Bigger. Can’t pull a semi and trailer into it. Also wish I would have installed a jib crane

    Okay guys, I need ideas.

The thing about putting some lumber down to build a ramp is that it will look so much nicer than the gravel would. (sarcasm intended)

Question for you folks that are woodworkers

Thats what I was going to say. Too bad there isn’t a scratch and sniff feature on the pics. I could tell you for sure

    Let's see your tin signs

I found this one out in a field in which I was working. It’s a little rough, but I like it. I’ve no idea how it got there. I’m sure it had been laying out there for quite a few years. It’s hanging in my shop now

feedback on Badass Workbenches or comparable units?

I’m sure there is some space that is sacrificed with the pivoting drawers, but I wouldn’t say I miss it. I normally don’t pack drawers so full of stuff that it’s an issue. The drawers are still pretty good sized as they are. I haven’t seen the videos, but I don’t buy that either. I open them...

feedback on Badass Workbenches or comparable units?

I’ve got one. It’s the three bay workbench unit. No casters, with a 3/8” top with a back splash. I like the pivoting drawers. I think you could even stand in them without them bending. It’s definitely built hell for stout. It’s a nice addition to the shop. If you bite the bullet and buy one...

    Unseating roller bearings

I would just like to say kudos to you for using a treadmill enough to wear out the bearing. Well done! I’m sure it will come apart somehow. Good luck!

Weathered barn roof as garage ceiling

My thoughts would be it would work fine, but the higher the ceiling is the better. I think if it’s too low it will cause the space to seem small and dark.

Good project. As a fellow Jeep lover, I’m sorry for the loss of your sweatshirt. Glad you weren’t hurt.

Remodel current garage VS building a pole barn...??

I think your estimate on the price of a new garage is low too. I put up a 30x40 in 2008. No insulation, no heat. two garage doors, one man door. I did the electrical myself. And it was $25-30. I also agree after seeing the stonework on your house that I’d put up a new garage rather than try to...

    Lumber prices going down

Just because futures are going down doesn’t mean you will see lower prices in stores right away. For proof of this look no further than the beef industry. Prices paid to producers pale in comparison to the massive profits being generated by the beef packers who put the product in the supermarket.

Steel cost. Are they following lumber prices?

If you dump trillions of dollars into the economy, inflation is to be expected.

Can the city decide they're going to take over a private dirt road?

I can’t see anything good coming from the city being involved as long as you’re equipped to maintain the road yourself. Without them you can do whatever you want without interference.
