    Costco Spectra wire

Not the topic here, I guess, but this is the first I've heard of this. That makes less sense than any other local ordinance I've heard.

Where are you looking to put this thing? You don't have a counter top either?

Coat/paint stained floor to sell the house

I'd leave it as is, or put down race deck. 98% of the buyers could care less about the garage floor, although they will probably notice the nice look of the racedeck. The other 2% will know if the garage was coated to cover stains. And really, who cares? This isn't like covering up rust on a...

What should I seal before insulation?

Unless you need to comply with a specific energy code, I'd do fiberglass batts, with kraft faced insulation. You won't be as energy-efficient, but you won't be too far off. You can still do the air sealing. I've been to enough seminars on insulation to draw this conclusion. Led by some...

    Garage Build Questions

I have the tab. I could push the tab to open the deadbolt fully, then it would shut, but again wouldn't retract fully

How crazy is moving a custom built carport?

As far as I remember from previously, the lot line hasn't been staked by a Surveyor, so a lot of this conversation is based on "what-if's" The carport encroaches on a "perceived" lot line. Get it surveyed, or let it go. (I was never advocating adverse posession approach, fwiw, but that is...

    Garage Build Questions

Last week it was discomforting when the deadbolt didn't retract fully and my door wouldn't open. It partially retracted, and after about 2-3' of rise, would return closed. Seems it was just slightly stuck. After hitting it with some penetrating oil, it freed right up. But if the wife was...

    Garage Build Questions

You need to make sure that with a 9' door and 10' ceiling height that you have enough room to fit a side mount operator. (as well as the low rise track) that 12" is barely enough for a low rise door. The side mount probably extends more than 12" above the top of opening. (I have 10' tall...

    Outswing vs inswing

Most overhead garage doors are not difficult to break into. Pop the bottom roller off the track and push the section in. I know a few people who have got into garages this way when they forgot keys or other legal reasons. So the ultra secure entry door isn't much of a deterrent. If the...

Pick my plans apart - What did you wish you did when you built?

A few thoughts based on what others have said, in no particular order. I don't like the looks of the painted osb, but it's very functional. My friend did finished plywood and I don't love that either, but it looks much better. I do understand the function vs. cost. I'd never put a 1" drop...

Upgrading residential service- review and feedback

Here in MA, every trench is required to be inspected. I'm surprised that isn't your standards out there. As far as who digs, I give the customers the option to dig themself, hire someone on their own, or I'll get someone. Much like you did/ do. I generally have somoeone who will dig it for a...

Does this chart indicate that he maximum breaker allowed is a 30 amp?

There are lug kits that I’ve used on Eaton BR load centers that allow me to pull 200 amps to a subpanel. So yes I agree it’s 200 per stab.

Does this chart indicate that he maximum breaker allowed is a 30 amp?

You're right. But the rating of the panel is limited to 200 amps as well. (0r 225) This panel can't be fed with 400 amps and pull 200 on (2) stabs on the same leg. But I get it, that's not what I Edit: deleted a statement that I realized wasn’t accurate

Can anyone school me on hot water booster pumps?

I don't think the tankless loops/ pumps work all that well. You are heating the loop vs. a tank that is mostly circulating the loop while still dealing with the standing losses of the tank. As I said, I have a tankless. (2 actually) and I walk into the bath and turn on shower first. Brush...

Can anyone school me on hot water booster pumps?

I think some here are way overthinking this. With just the standing losses of the hot water in the supply lines to the fixtures, the water heater isn't using a lot of energy to keep the water hot at the furthest fixture. Running the circulator 24/7 won't use enough energy to notice. For a...

Does this chart indicate that he maximum breaker allowed is a 30 amp?

While the Siemens isn't listed for use in the Sylvania panel, I wouldn't lose sleep if it were in my house.

Does this chart indicate that he maximum breaker allowed is a 30 amp?

It does mean that, sort of. It means the total of each bus, (every other breaker top to bottom) can't exceed 200 amp load. Which is different than adding up the breaker sizes.

    Auto Battery Cable Repair

I figured that by now, you'd have just settled on the good ole romex connector splice, with tape of course. Kidding, of course. I don't have any better advice than what's been offered. The fact that others will be driving it would be a big concern, which you already acknowledged. I'd have...
