Have some big casters with threaded stems I want to attach to a large rack with 2x4 upright supports (maybe paired 2x4s). Is there some kind of square-ish bracket that will bolt into the sides of the 2x4s and give me a box-like structure at the bottom, with enough clearance to mount the casters...

I came across a pic of someone using pallet racking as a hoist frame to pull an engine. Wouldn't recommend it without a way to evenly spread the load. They used metal sleeves that fit over the shelving supports--but I'd still be concerned about torquing the supports in a direction they were not...

Seems like the critical factor is where the side-braces weld up, because you don't want to cut into those when shortening the uprights to bench height. I wonder if cutting down alters the weight distribution on what's left. Now that I have the right term (pallet racking) my google-fu is much...

Interesting on the replacement. Liability I assume. When was a kid(-ish) I worked briefly in a warehouse. If one bottle of liquid or powder or whatever got punctured, they'd forklift the whole pallet to the trash bins...
