1920-60s DELTA / ROCKWELL picture thread - Post your Delta!

Latest piece of junk, 1961 15-000 15" drill press. I wish I had a before pic, this was hidden under 5 coats of paint including a healthy layer of safety yellow and a coat of house paint for good measure. Stripped to bare metal and repainted, all new bearings and a belt and ready for the next 50...

Heavy aluminum tape as joist flashing

The aluminum will be gone in a year or two. If anything use strips of ice & water shield.

    Rockwell 15-000 Drill Press Restore

Interesting, that piece is very firmly in place in mine. I ordered the bearings from my local supplier.

    Rockwell 15-000 Drill Press Restore

By coincidence, I'm in the middle of restoring a 1961 15-000 myself. You need to get the nut off of the spindle and then it will all come apart. The nut isn't super tight, once I bent the tab from the star washer out it only took a couple taps with a brass punch to loosen it. I was able to then...

    Tool Brand Marketing vs. Usage

I'm a Klein screwdriver snob, it's all I'll use. Wood shop, automotive, home repair, and 36 years of working with electricity professionally.

    Protective Mask Guide

Yes, black (activated carbon) for solvent based painting. Important note; they start aging as soon as you open them, if you leave activated carbon filters open to the air for any length of time they become saturated and no longer work to protect you. You can extend the life of them by storing...

How to figure out what has caused my electric usage to go up by 20% or more?

Any chance you have access to an infra-red camera? Step one when I'm helping a customer with a high bill is to IR the panel. I can find what the problem is 95% of the time just by looking for the warm breaker. sewage pumps are very high on the list of offenders, as are wells. Heat tape on the...

Which breaker panel is most common?

Homeline is the lower cost line from Square D. If I'm spending someone else's money I prefer Square D QO. More importantly, what brand of main panel do you have in your home? If you use the same you need less spare breakers to cover both.

    Salvaging Tools from a Fire

maybe $1k, but I wouldn't pay any more than that. $15k might be msrp, but tools from Asia don't sell for msrp. The powermatic bandsaw looks rough, and I wouldn't touch the Nova drill press for more than $50 as a gamble.

    Salvaging Tools from a Fire

Looks like a pig in a poke. They might be fine, and they might be much worse than they appear in the pic. You could be looking at replacing all of the plastic parts like the knobs and belt covers. Personally I wouldn't touch them for more than scrap value, you're going to have a ton of time...
