That does make sense, they don't want to be responsible for providing faulty equipment, etc. Just curious, not saying it's right or wrong. I'm sure many other companies/business do the exact same thing. Just ***** to see a good tool get destroyed!

Yesterday I saw a Dremel MM20-06H, but it still rang up $99. Didn't see a tag on the shelf so I thought maybe it was a straggler on clearance, but I guess not. This was in Orange, CT.

That's the SM20-03. The one I got for $33 is the SM20-02 (in a hard plastic case).
