im not so sure it is a dead technology,i have the snap on 18v nicad drill and snap on 18v lithium drill,just bought a 14.4 nicad snap on impact and i have the 18v ni cad snap on impact,the nicad is just as good in my opinion.

i would also be interested in hearing from someone who has actually used it.
