20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

I agree. I definitely don't need too much variety in my tools at home. I wrote at the bottom of the original posting that writing out the post made me realize that I didn't need all the variety that Milwaukee and Dewalt offer in their lineup. With that said, I think I'll likely just go ahead...

20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

Yeah, I'm in no rush. I'm going to pickup a spare battery for the M12 in the next month or two, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for the Memorial Day/Father's Day sale along with the 4th of July sales for the 20V. If nothing looks good to me during those sales, I'll wait till Black Friday for...

20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

Yeah, I've been impressed with the M12 3/8" stubby impact. I plan to keep my M12 stubby and add on a ratchet or a die grinder in the M12 line. I just wanted to get a mid/high torque and those are only available in 18/20V lines.

20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

Seems like consensus is that there is no need to stick to one brand and one line of batteries. I'll probably stick to my plan of going for Ridgid for my main lineup of tools(they've had their 20V line for a while and have lifetime support agreement for batteries that come with a tool as a...

20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

My bad... I did look around for previous posts, but it's been a little while since the last platform comparison and a lot the companies have come out with new tools in the last year or so that made my decision a bit more difficult. I'll delete my post if it gets too messy or if it's too...

20V Tool Platform for a DIYer

Looking for recommendation on a 18/20V platform as a DIYer. The wife and I are planning to buy a home in the next year or so, and I want to get into a system that we can expand upon once we're in the home. I currently have very minimal investment into the Dewalt 20V system with a brushed drill...

    Need 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 MM wrenches. What are you using?

I know OP already decided on his purchase, but I can put another vote in for Toptul from Cryer Tool. Shipping took a while coming to Texas, but they're shipping form Vancouver, so it's understandable. I bought a set of the Toptul super torque metric wrenches from 6mm-22mm. I reached out to...

Help me design mobile car tire rig

I'm not in the industry and I'm just a weekend DIYer, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. I think the emergency tire changes are going to be a logistical nightmare unless you've got access to a warehouse full of different sizes of tires 24/7. Or you want to foot the bill to build up...

Theft. Gotta replace my well-used main travel kit, and looking for recommendations.

Tekton's pretty decent stuff. I made a post a while back about how Tekton's prices have gone through the roof over the past few years(like most things), and that there are other brands of equal or greater quality you can get for about the same price. The trouble is that you need to do a lot...

Shallow vs. Semi-Deep vs. Deep Socket

I have metric semi deep sockets in both 1/4"(Gearwrench) and 3/8"(Koken & Sunex). I usually only carry the 1/4" semi deep sockets, but carry the 3/8" shallows. I only use 2 sizes of the 1/4" semi deep set(10mm and 12mm). I add on the Tekton short extension to make the 3/8" shallows into semi...

Best Socket Rails for Tool Bag - Still Ernst?

I have a tool bag that I carry on my bicycle to friends' houses to help work on their cars. I grabbed a few of the 13" Ernst socket rails for my portable tool bag. I also made myself some tool rolls out of some Cordura I had laying around for my screwdrivers and wrenches. If you can get a...

    Tekton Mini Extensions 3/8"

That's true, but most of my deep sockets have shallow broaching, so I think of deep sockets as sockets with more length without fiddling with extensions, just like semi-deeps. For DIYers like myself, I don't think I've ever needed a semi-deep for any job I've done, but there might have been...

Neat. Didn't even notice the missing e. The fit is very nice and tight on 17mm and 19mm fasteners.

    Tekton Mini Extensions 3/8"

There will be that one day that the 1mm difference WILL make a difference. When that day comes, I'll tell all my friends and family during Christmas dinner.

Re-posting since I couldn't get my photos uploaded properly last time. I strolled over to a pawn shop about 5 minute walk away and picked up some sockets and wrenches for $10. Here are some of the more interesting ones: - Indestro Super 19mm 12 PT 1/2" Socket - Armstrong USA 14mm 12 PT 1/2"...

    Tekton Mini Extensions 3/8"

I recently picked up some Koken 3/8" metric sockets in short and deep at the recommendations of many. I later picked up a set of semi-deeps during DRPD's holiday sale. I still use my other sockets more(I usually go to someone else's garage/driveway to work on their cars, so I take a GW set...

    Gearwrench tool reviews

Ordered a metric 1/4" mid-length socket set a few months back, received a set made in Vietnam instead of Taiwan. Everything else I've ordered from Gearwrench has been made in Taiwan, but didn't notice any real quality difference other than the sizing stamp not being circled. Knowing I won't be...

Ko-ken USA is having a sale right now.

Good time to buy some 10mm sockets? I saw this sale and didn't think much of it since there's not too many things I'd want double of as a DIYer. It's nice that shipping is free(or was before, I'm sure it still is). But if you're buying more than a few things, it's almost always better to go...

    Inflater

I've used a bicycle pump in a pinch when topping off 2-5 psi, but I do also use the Ryobi one and it's good for using it every few months. Thinking of leaving one in the car if I can pick one up on sale.
