Amarr vs CHI for replacement garage doors, advice needed asap.

Something to consider... I have Amarr Oak Summit doors and found that the bottom seal has a non-standard T-channel width. The Amarr bottom seals have an rigid vertical piece that forms a gap at the bottom corners when the door is closed. This is a recent change; I called Amarr and they said...

My install of my Cheap 2 Post lift. Is it worth it? Maybe.

I bought a MaxJax about 4-1/2 years ago. At the time, they didn't do residential deliveries so I decided to pay a professional installer to pick it up at the depot and install it. There were minor issues with the MaxJax as I recall: 1) leakage at the reservoir fill plug; 2) bad uneven lifting...

    American Machinist Journal (1902)

You know what's missing from all those great old tools and equipment? Plastic. The good ol' days when tools and equipment were made from metal.

    Water Softener and Filter Advice

We have a softener system as well. Here's my understanding of the resin issue: The resin is a crosslinked porous polymeric material which provides the sites where sodium ions sit, and are exchanged with calcium. The brine wash removes the entrapped calcium, replacing it with more sodium. So the...

Back with my 987 Cayman I used to use a set of those milled aluminum "pucks". However, my current 981GTS is too low for the pucks. I just use the MaxJax pads without any additional spacers. Seems to work fine; the pads don't hit anything else. Don't know about a 997 turbo. Wish I had that problem...

What happened to REAL Gorilla Racks?

Yeah, I have about 5 of the Edsal 4' x 2' shelving units that I've had for years. I recently bought another one and was disappointed to see that the metal shelf supports are thinner and flex, unlike the older ones. The particle board shelves are thinner too. I double-checked the model number...

Garage parking guidance system. Low tech, or high tech!

My old garage was only 12 x 24 which didn't leave me much space to position the car. I got one of those plastic wheel stops that glue to the floor with double stick tape so that I could park in the same spot each time. I used one of those laser things to help me center the car when I wanted to...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

That's encouraging. However, I can't see how this bottom seal flange can be removed. Not arguing with you-- looking for guidance here. See photos; it looks to me like the flange is rolled into the steel door shell. I can't see any attachment points or rivets. Sorry if this is: :deadhorse

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

Thanks for the suggestion-- I considered that, but it wouldn't be easy. The existing track is not removable, it's part of the steel structure of the door (which seems like a stupid way to make a door). Only way to change it that I can see is if I could install a track mounted on a U-shaped...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond to my post! Yeah, that's what it looks like-- the door just wasn't down all that way. However, I cut a small cross section of the seal off the end where it overlapped the retaining bracket, and after bending it by hand, it seems that the gap...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

I installed a Liftmaster Jackshaft opener in my previous garage. Quieter and more secure than the chain drive. I would like to install a couple here as well at some point. I wonder if the door could be closed further down, also. I disengaged it from the opener mechanism, but it wouldn't push...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

To answer the questions, Yes, these appear to be standard 5-panel insulated doors with a Liftmaster chain drive closer. The exterior weatherstripping also appears to have been installed correctly and goes down to the concrete (see photo). Note: The outer white track is for the motorized...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

Dan- Sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't follow exactly what you are describing. Could you elaborate?

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

Thanks guys, for the suggestions. Funny how one can get fixated on a particular approach. I've been trying to cut a block of something to fill the void to the top of the bottom seal. Problem is that the profile of the seal changes enough when the door is closed that I couldn't get the profile...

Gaps at bottom edges of garage doors- how to seal?

We recently moved into a new house that came with a 16-ft and a 10-ft door. The way the bottom seal is mounted, it leaves a large ~ 1-1/2” opening at the bottom edges of the doors (see left photo). This has been a major route of ingress by various critters, including a snake. Glue strips help...

Why did I involve my wife (Window opinion)

Wow, she must have other redeeming qualities for you to be putting up with that nonsense. ;) My wife and I have been together a long time and we have come to realize that each of us needs to have our own spaces that we have final say about. Maybe an attached garage wasn't such a good idea in...

has anyone used "PODS" or similar storage containers

We used them on two occasions when we had to empty several rooms to have work done. In this case, the POD was parked in our driveway and picked up empty after we put everything back. No issues at all... worked great for us. Not cheap but not so bad if you have it picked up within a month.

Install a lift in narrow garage?

I have a MaxJax lift in my tiny 12' x 24' garage. See some photos of my setup in this thread. Not an optimal solution for sure, but you gotta work with what you got. The only real issues are that you can't change an axle or walk around the posts when the car is on the lift, but it works great...

    Maxjax Installs: Post Here

Don't be discouraged by those naysayers fortunate enough to have large spacious work spaces. I have a MaxJax in my tiny 12x24 converted carport. See post #770 in this thread. I've made dozens of lifts and it was worth every penny. The only problem with my setup is that I can't walk behind the...
