I answered a Craigslist add that had 3 toolboxes listed for $10 each. I was only interested in 2 but when he offered all 3 for $18, I couldn't argue. After sorting contents and trashing probably 10 lbs worth of assorted detritus, I'm left with the following: SK Carry Box Waterloo Hip-roof...

Anyone got an idea on this 3/8 drive, 4 inch extension? I left it at the flea this weekend due to the retaining ball being MIA but snagged the pic... Sent from my SM-A115A using The Garage Journal mobile app

If anyone has any of the other Plomb/Plomb/Proto logos of yesteryear, feel free to toss them up as well. If I can produce something worthwhile (doubtful, but worth a shot), I’ll post the images in this thread. V/r, John Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

Well, shoot... looks like I just volunteered myself. OTG, if you can take a picture of that logo as squarely as possible, I’ll take a stab at getting it converted into a vector. Thanks again, John Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

That's an interesting one, Don. I just picked a 5253 adapter today as well 'though mine is from the Professional era. Best regards to you, Sir, and have a great weekend. John

OTG, that is an amazing box! On a related note, I wonder how difficult it would be to curate a collection of the Plomb/Plvmb/Proto box logos for those of us that are restoring some of these wonderful pieces of history. I've seen the Plvmb blacksmith logos available on the "bay" but it would be...

Hi, Lugs. The list I made offhand reference to was posted on this site several years ago by username "lbgradwell" According to this list, the primary contract manufacturers for Pratt Whitney were Bonney, Snap-On, and Plomb, however, there are a significant number of "unknowns" on the list...

Thanks for the correction, Lugz, and, after perusing the list of PWA contract items, Bonney indeed comes up as the manufacturer for PWA 1392 as a Pushrod/Rocker arm depressor; just goes to show my lack of knowledge and experience! Thank you again for the clarification. V/r, John

Here's a handful of 1" and 3/4" drive impact sockets I picked up the other day. They look a lot better after a soak in Evaporust. V/r, John Sent from my SM-A115A using The Garage Journal mobile app

Outlaw, That PWA specialty socket is Pratt Whitney Aircraft Company and probably made by Plomb... at least all the PWA contract sockets I've come across have been. Nice pull, Sir! V/r, John Sent from my SM-A115A using The Garage Journal mobile app

One candidate it will fit is the 5495 1/2 drive case. There’s one peeking out from under a set of sockets here... but I’ll leave it to the more knowledgeable on what else it might fit V/r, John Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

The box I'm looking at has square corners, latch, carry-handle, and the internal dividers that I would normally expect to see in a pre-war box only without the embossing on the lid. It won't be til the end of next week that I will (hopefully) be able to lay hands on it again, but I'll grab...

Question for you all: Have you ever run into a Plomb 5295 box (3/8 drive) without the Plomb Tool Co stamp/embossing in the lid? I've got a line on a box that dimensionally and internally looks identical, but without the lid stamp to which I am accustomed. Thoughts? And thank you in advance. John

Thanks, Don. It would appear that they used a simple number system during that era rather than the "by 32nds" system of the shallow sockets...going back through my Plomb and Proto deep sockets, I'm surprised that I only now noticed the difference. A quick Google search turned up the...

I'd love to hear some thoughts from those with a bit more time in the Proto world. I recently picked a Proto LA 1/2 drive deep socket that is stamped 5340. According to conventional wisdom, it should be 1 1/4... but it's not. The service opening is 1/2. Thoughts? Am I missing something here...

OTG, Good afternoon, Sir, and I hope it finds you in good health and cheer. I know you stated somewhere that you had refinished that box. Do you remember the paint you used perchance? I may have a couple of refinish projects coming up, and what you have done there is outstanding. Thank you...
