The WRONG Tool For The Job

I used a chisel for scraping gaskets! I got away with it but the possibility of serious gouging makes me cringe. As a youngling, my father tasked me with clearing brush and his tools of choice were a hatchet and some loppers. Worked but was really slow so I used a 3 cylinder Pinto with a truck...

    garage organization paralysis

I use a white board with a wish list on it. As I worked I would find a situation that bothered me and write down possible solutions. These got serviced during those down times waiting on parts or when I didn't have time for that big project so I did 4 little ones. Move the bench 2 feet that...

    Spreading the Bonney affliction!

Good to see another one of these appear! Mine dates from around 1954 and has the smooth handles on both the top and bottom box. I need to get more pics as all mine were screwed up with photobucket. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=245925 Bruce

Above 1200 Sq/FT Organizing the Family Shop

We all have a plan to guide us as we seek to organize and keep our projects on....DANG! Look at that Rigid vice! It would make a great project...gotta stop at Tractor Supply for some paint...well there was this garage sale on the way and I saw a weedeater, mini bike and a 5th wheel set up so I...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Cleaning Up My Shop

It is fun seeing the progress and direction this has taken. I did finally finish the convertible top yesterday (just under 3 years). Love the casting! Bruce

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Put the roller tires, manual computer, fan belt and battery on the 91 Mustang and drove it to the gas store (illegally)to get some fresh gas in her. Then I pulled and adjusted on the convertible top and got it done except for the bottom edge of the rear window and the well liner installed! Bruce

Ever lose a tool and find it days/weeks/months/years later?

My record is 38 years. I was working on my 67 Mustang using the tailgate of my Dads 72 Chevy truck as a workbench/tool spot. Lost my 1/2 Craftsman combo wrench. Actually it was my Dads and I was only 17. I was working at the door of my shop using outside light as the shop had no electricity. 38...

    East Texas shop begins!

Still on rest and heal, but I will be back soon enough. Seems I was the stupid guy ignoring the warnings and had been having minor attacks for up to 15 years. Cumulative, they just slowed me up over a long time and I was just feeling old or something. If you smoke, stop! I actually feel better...

    East Texas shop begins!

Thanks for checking back dudes! I am a bit sidetracked as I just had triple bypass and goot home today. One of my goals with the shop was to simplify and reduce, so you will see many of my duplicate and excessive tools flying at ya. Bruce

    Does cost REALLY dictate quality?

One thing I have been teaching my kids (now the grands) is that buying stuff to get others approval is stupid. I was in a situation where a kidling wanted a specific pair of headphones that cost $250. Promoted by a guy named Dr. Dre or something. We looked and listened to some in a box store...

My new workshop. What would you do first?

I was waiting for someone to mention ceiling mounted electric and air. Maybe a couple outlets on the outside too! Lights for the front pad for those nice evenings where you are outside working and have 20 minutes of sun left for an hour of work! Bruce

Sears plans to shutter after 126 years in business

Sears lost me around 1993 when my oft used Sears card was bumped from 10% to 27.5% interest. Felt like someone in the upper offices stopped looking at us as customers and began treating us as targets for money sucking policies. In 1992 I spent $4600 in Sears that was all on my card. I stopped...
