Help needed with structural details of steel entry gate build.

I have a rolling gate 8' wide by about 6' H, hence no diagonal brace. The is one centered upright. I found that 2 x 2 square tubing is sturdy enough and I recommend 1/8th wall for light enough but easily weldable. I'd look at 3/4 tubing for the pickets. You could scale up from there to 3/16ths...

    Walkway Lights

@Shiftless, totally agree. Yet outdoor low voltage wire rated for burial is costly, the only disadvantage I can see to not have a LV system. I have picked up a couple dozen lights, many with working bulbs, which aren't too expensive to buy. I try to buy a little higher wattage and they last a...

    Why do electricians leave

Or plan the yield. At least run through the house and make all the long cuts first. But I've seen and done worse. At least I can say I learned while many times not so much for others. I'd be surprised if you can't make a max yield cut list on a phone now.

Help from electrician? Ceiling fan fell

Nope. Better pics produce better comments. It didn't look like much breakage anyway. Just thoughts, that's all. Not my problem how it actually fell. I use safety chains. I've installed quite a few of those. They seemed to look safe. Yours found a way to not be so.

Help from electrician? Ceiling fan fell

Something is broken on the cradle. That pawl holding the keyway in the ball was not very deep to start with. I submit that the unbalanced fan ***'y worked to deform the keyway, the ball moved forward sitting proud of the pawl putting undue pressure on the now broken ends of the cradle, it broke...

    Would 8/2 Romex fit a 20amp breaker?

Isn't this Garage Journal Electrical College? IF I log 4000 hours here do I qualify for a residential cert in CA (and similar reciprocating states like NV and AZ)?

    Draw Burnishing Tool

Can't buy good stripper in CA. @Gutman, I'm not sure what degree of destruction your recommendations are but this is like stripping marine paint off a rusty ship. It's some tough stuff. I've done a lot of painting and stripping by all methods for years from cars to structural steel. I'd...

    Draw Burnishing Tool

Thanks to both of you. I'm not sure that link was up this morning, but I could have missed it. That's the same brand I was looking at that said "Currently Unavailable." Weird. Yeah I've heard of Cubitron but never sprung for it. You might be right about just using the angle grinder.

    Draw Burnishing Tool

I did a search being a bit of a newbie around here and did not see the tool I'm talking about but it may go by a different name. Some are made from an angle grinder and hold a flap or matrix material drum. Others drive the drum on center with the motor and seem to be easy to "draw" or pull...

    Solid or blocked corner

I did find there is a Rover Bit by Bad Dog Tools (no affiliation whatsoever) that claims to be able to drill drifting off center to help overcome the circumstances that @sparky 1971 describes which is fact. But I knew in the back of my mind that there was a bit that did not have straight sides...

    Solid or blocked corner

@rawen2, no, the straight sides would prevent making the bit travel sideways much while drilling. I said likely 3 spurs, not multi. 2 spurs is simple a paddle bit. The 3 spurs are sticking out at an angle with some draft on any side support below the cutter. This allows you to do 2 things: angle...

    Solid or blocked corner

Seems to me that I had a wood bit that would angle while drilling making kind of a curved hole, if you will. L@@king, I can't find what I think I have. IIRC, it's a triple spur bit that likes to break your wrist if you use an 18v drill with a lot of torque. It is limited, of course, by the...

    Security for the security camera?

Depending on where in this overhang this will be installed you can use some chain-link fence. The camera will not see the metal if it is in close range.

Eastwood CONTOUR SCT or HF Surface Conditioning sanding drum sources ?

Doing a search here and looking around at posts and threads I came up with this old thread. Anything new on these? What I learned here so far is that the kit for an angle grinder is not good as the AG turns way too fast. Wanting to buy one right away so any suggestions are welcome. There is...

    Garage Door Opener Wiring Question

I think the extension cord is marginal but sometimes you will see one stapled. That's adding insult to injury. Nothing wrong with using a KO at the source box and running MC to the overhead to place a box. Since the box should be hot (I have mine switched for added security) you could use a 2nd...

    Electric pulsing?

That they do, I have one. I did not realize all that warm up time wasn't getting the water to de dispensed hot enough w/o further heating. But it lasts 7 to 10 seconds while pouring. Is this the problem? The OP didn't give that many details, frequency or duration. He just said "rhythmic." That...

    Electric pulsing?

Still, washers are more known for this than any other appliance. Once you eliminate the obvious, there is a whole page here of suggestions to work through. But the one is always the first one to eliminate. I have not heard of coffee makers doing this even though they switch on and off when...
