    Tools of Japan

Well, another day in Narita is almost over and I was nearly skunked on my tool outing. A late flight and the always standing dinner plans here in town left me with too little time to find the stores superautobac recommended a while back. I did find another home center near by but the pickings...

Thanks for the kind words. The family and I enjoy it immensely.

What is the size of a 3 car garage?

Nice Bronco....couple of thoughts. Do you have a hard top for it? If so you might consider having the tracks for the garage door run up tight to the ceiling so you could set up a hoist to remove/install and store the top. Also, what's the layout of the garage relative to the house and lot...

    Tools of Japan

Superautobacs, Thanks for the great gouge! I wasn't particularly looking for home stores, just figured it was a safe bet. Was out drinking with the guys after dinner and happened upon a self proclaimed "hardware" store. It was full of cheap knives, junk tools and tourist ****. Exactly what...

    Tools of Japan

Super, Went to a Joyful Honda. It was a $20 cab ride from the hotel and had a fair selection for my first visit. Kind of an all in one with hardware, pet store, grocery, booze, arts & crafts, toys etc....I needed to buy a little something for the kids also and I only had a couple hours as I...

    Tools of Japan

Dave, Thanks for the quick tips on quality tools. Every brand you listed was in the store in one form or another. I exercised much restraint in not buying more! I saw the links on the previous page yesterday but it was too late, I was already in Singapore. I wish I had found this thread...

    Tools of Japan

Had a few hours in Narita and went on the hunt for a Koken socket set. Only had time to hit up one store and they only had about 10 Koken tamper resistant drivers, everything else was Tone and I wasn't familiar so I didn't pull the trigger. But based on some recommendations Dave (dede...) gave...

    Tools in Hong Kong

Checked out a bunch of local hardware stores today in Sham Shui Po. Mostly what I expected with one surprise, Wiha screwdrivers/accessories are in pretty much every store. Don't know if it's because they're popular or because they're knock offs. Also saw a lot of a Japanese brand named...

    oscillating multi tool

For casual use I think a quality blade on about any tool will serve you well. I have the Fein and wouldn't trade it for anything.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Cool! Happy to help. I'd love to track down a top box to go with mine. Been slacking off on the estate sales since I found out I'm moving to Hong Kong for a couple of years. Cheers!

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Here you go. Again, the stamping is behind the "Craftsman" on the garage door. Might have to blow it up to notice the stamping.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Quick question on a Craftsman roller I posted here a month or two back. It was post war and the consensus here was late '40s or early '50s. Was poking around it yesterday and on the garage door behind the logo was a "WATERLOO" stamping, but no date. So I know who made it but not the exact...

    Cordless Hammer Drill Recommendations

Title says it all. Moving to Hong Kong for a couple of years and most of the apartment buildings in the neighborhood we've chosen have concrete interior walls. A buddy over there recommended I get a hammer drill there for bike hangers, pictures etc... I'd rather buy one here, especially if...

    2015 Garage SaleThread

Picked up a KRA 250 B toolbox and a GF4L 3/8" speeder for $30 off CL. The box is well used but has no rust and the only bent metal I can find is the latch for the lock is a bit crooked. I can straiten that out. Box says U.S.A. 78, I'm new to picking these up but I think that means a 1978...

Proto ratcheting wrenches USA made, worth the dollars?

Well, this thread saved me $75! I found a new set of the black chrome Proto's on CL (9 pc) and was going to buy them today. I actually have 7 of the sizes in Gearwrench but "thought" it was too good a deal to pass up upgrading to PROTO. Like twertsy I thought all PROTO was USA made.

    Multi-Bit Driver

Does SnapOn make their ratcheting screwdrivers, and if they do, do they make the Williams version also (or vice versa)? They look very similar, maybe not. As far as the long screwdrivers are concerned, I've thought about that too. Many of my sons toys have screws that wouldn't be accessible...
