    VA Garage Gang

Awesome - my Bobcat dealer is over that way and I also enjoy Center of Universe when I'm in the area. I work in Downtown a good bit but the office is moving out to 301 /295 area this summer.

    VA Garage Gang

How big is the working area around it? Can small machinery get in to where it is? Hi neighbor-ish! What direction outside Richmond? I am similar but out West on 64, but not quite to Charlottesville.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Fixed this busted up pinion gear for an old piece of machinery. Not shown is the retainer cap that holds it all on there. The gear and key were all a nice light press fit too.

    I'm your fitting guy.....

Congrats on the retirement. I bought a box of ORB to ORFS adapters recently, and in it were some other misc fittings and such... What would this funky thing be identified as and more importantly... use and any value? Also, do you still have a source for obtaining fittings and adapters? I build...

What are your top 3 grail tools you got on your wish list if you win the lottery

Just ran through this thread and it actually made me feel better about the things I have in my shop and not feel so much like I am lacking. You and I think a lot alike. I would want a CNC multi-axis machine, and a dedicated CNC lathe and a big Cinci Press Brake too.

Treating steel to make a protective rust coating

The Steel bridges that are intended to rust over lightly and then stop rusting have to exist in a fairly dry area where they can actually recover from a moisture cycle too. The grade of steel is A588, also known as weathering steel and "Corten" is the common brand name, similar to how Band-aid...

Two post lift: wide or narrow configuration?

I have a 10k bendpak Asymmetrical set in the wide position. It picks up my 3500 Mega cab just fine and theres a bit of room for misalignment. However, my old Dodge with the narrower frame rails has to be EXACTLY in the right spot, otherwise, no go. I had tape on the floor for where each vehicle...

    Cost of welding gas?

Ran into this recently. I inherited a few larger bottles that have blank collars and no markings other than mfg information and some older recerts. One of them I was using for quite some time before it ran empty. One was a 150 C25, and the other was a 300 oxygen bottle. Actually the 150 said on...

    Hole saw recs?

I'm a fan of the Milwaukee and Lenox saws but don't have experience with the Diablos saws. I stopped buying their stuff after ending up with poor performing 8" carbide metal saw blades when compared to the life of the Evolution or Milwaukee brands. It seems that my older Milwaukee saws have less...

The Home/Hobby CNC Plasma Cutting Thread

Thanks for the compliments. As for the OA torch setup, if you have someone to help who is competent at either a torch or a computer, you can just run the starts and stops manually. Thats what I did yesterday. I have some 1-1/4" mild plate I needed some stuff out of for both my personal projects...

    Show us your welding projects

Check out the 255 while you are shopping. I have had one for almost 5 years now, and its extremely versatile from thin thin sheetmetal work to running pulse with C10 on 1/2" and 5/8".

1920-60s DELTA / ROCKWELL picture thread - Post your Delta!

Ooof, yea this one actually happened behind the nail, further up my thumb and was back in early October. It then grew out for a month before the bruise was even visible. This one came from a trailer jack handle and a pad lock on my trailer tongue box. I was running behind, hooking my trailer to...

The Home/Hobby CNC Plasma Cutting Thread

I have one of the first 100 Serial Numbers of the Torchmate Growth Series tables, back when the company was NOT owned by Lincoln Electric. After they were purchased I even went and visited the factory in Reno and everything was great, until it wasn't. They said they'd support our machines just...

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

So I HAD a cool old drill press, that I replaced with another cool old drill press, but not quite as old. And, the replacement is actually a RAD so does that still make it a press? So, for scale of things... what I was previously using was a 1939 Barnes All Gear drive 24" MT3 drill press. Here...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Picked up with Wilton 09-600 two weekends ago and have been slowly cleaning it up. One of the swivel locks was cracked, and when I was actually investigating it further, it fall apart in my hands so I was just glad that the pieces and the part stayed together long enough for me to recover it. I...

Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

I am going to ride on your coattails here and post up the beast I am working on currently. I greatly appreciate you sharing the wiring challenge with yours as mine is a 440V unit and I was looking at Transformers before or after a VFD (no 3 phase here and my other bigger machines are on 3 phase...

    Show us your welding projects

Thank ya! I like to make things serviceable when I can. On both of these tanks, I will weld the inside corners where I can get to them, then the baffles go in but they just get some stitches in areas that are low stress to reduce any fatigue cycling. The diesel tank above has been in the truck...

Drill Press Vise Handle Mod Idea Help

Playing on the ideas above, it would be cool if a 3/8" square could be broached into the end of the screw there, then you can just sneak a ratchet in there any time you need it and remove it when you are done. The Kurt style vises in my shop have either hexes or squares on the end with a...

    Show us your welding projects

Thank you, and ya know what; I failed to take any pictures of the production of this one other than the ones here because I was more focused on the machining of the pump bulkhead than the tank itself, having built a few like this. This tank is a 30 gallon diesel tank in the truck seen in the...

    The repurposing thread

I needed a custom weird but somewhat matching air filter housing for a Restomod project I was working on. I decided to repurpose two rather cheap Aluminum cake pans. A few functional Aircraft solid rivets (set with an air hammer too) Not shown is the other tube that goes to a scupper...
