Newbie Insulation Question Existing Metal Building

Glad to see you are back in the game, and looking forward to your next fab projects. I'd +1 on Silvercote, they provided the insulation for my shop, and were very easy to work with - shipped out an additional roll n/c when we came up short on the install. My walls and ceiling use the...

Vise Mount Bending Brake. My vise is too small and I am looking for suggestions for a vise and a few questions about using this bending method.

Looking at the brake, it says the max capacity is 14 gauge, which is 0.0747" - slightly more than half of the 0.125" you want to bend. My guess is you will be disappointed with this brake!!!

Mounting a Mr Cool Mini Split

Is your building a "red iron" steel building, with girts to support the steel sheathing? If so, I would hope that there is more than just the top and bottom channel to support the steel. Also, what kind of insulation? Spray foam? Batts? It might make a difference. I installed a couple of...

    Scaffolding is it worth it?

+1 on the baker scaffolding. I bought 2 sets of the Metal Tech with the floor hatches, and set of outriggers. I used it for all of the ceiling work in building my metal building (bracing, guy wire, insulation, conduit, lights, fans, etc.) and anything that was above the 6' stepladder level. I...

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Welcome......To Odd Acres

Your epoxy supplier should be able to provide an epoxy filler to put in the floor before coating the floor. I used Arizona Polymer Floors RTE-100 Gel Crack Repair, and did it before coating the floor with their Epoxy/Poly 100. After watching a couple of YouTube videos, I applied it a little...

    Garage door opener won't close

Does the opener raise the door without issue? If not, logic board is a good bet. You said it doesn't flash the light when it stops; if you block the photosensors with a box or something, does it flash the light when you try to lower the door? If it does, but not when you try again with the...

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

16" hacksaw 2' multi-outlet extension cord Needlenose vice grips 1/2" drive air impact wrench (Central Pneumatic, but hey! free!)

    Dirty power?

We had a "flickering lights" issue last year. My neighbor called one Sunday afternoon and asked if my lights were flickering - they were. They were going mostly brighter, and we had noticed that they had been for a couple of days. I didn't think much of it, as sometimes LEDs fail that way - I...

    heavy jackshaft opener

Check the specs on the Liftmaster8500 - a 16x16 door is too big for them to handle. The owners manual says "up to 14' tall" and less than 180sqft. 16x16 violates both of those. Your 12x14 "should" be ok. I have one installed on a 16x10 door, and it works fine.

    Insulating metal building

Another vote for SilverCote. I believe they provide post-construction kits as well, and they also supply rockwool insulation, which I believe is slightly better R-value than fiberglass, and is easier to work with (less irritation to the skin)

Your first test is probably the best with this engine - check the sensor. I have seen failures of the sensor on this vintage 5.3

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Warthog Hidey Hole

You didn't mention what year Impala SS - One from the 60's or the 90's?? Also, what weight of oil was used? If it's from the '60s, I'd expect at 192,000 it's time for a set of rod bearings. Or, it may be so sludged up that the oil doesn't drain out of the heads and lifter valley, preventing...

Garage and Workshop coating suggestions - new slabs

I recently finished a 1000' floor using 2-part 2-coat (polyurethane over epoxy), and I am very pleased with the result - I used the same product in my 3 car garage 12 years ago and had no issues with lifting/flaking. The products I used were from Arizona Polymer Floors (epoxy, polyurethane and...

How much clearance is required in front of a an A/C disconnect?

Unfortunately, I want the condensers off the ground (mounted to the shop) and out of the way of the mower, so they would likely obscure access to the disconnect. Thanks, brewchief, this is just what I needed to know. This is what I expected would be the answer - I think that I'll be ok if...

How much clearance is required in front of a an A/C disconnect?

I am planning the installation of two mini-splits for my shop, and I have the power wiring complete, including mounting the disconnects on the outside of the shop walls. I'm trying to finalize exactly where the condenser units should be mounted - and for one of them, the "optimal" place would...

Dewalt: New batteries, trash and go Makita?

I bought one of these adapters to use with my 18v reciprocating saw, and while it works, I'm not happy with the result. I have the Dewalt 20v lithium batteries for my impact driver and right angle drill (2ah and 4ah), and the batteries work fine in those tools. But when I put them on the...

New 30x40 what insulation to choose?

I would also look at other methods of insulating, rather than the "squish between the sheathing and the girts". I am in AZ, and my building supplier (Rhino) offered an option for R30 roof, R19 walls, using the strap and fabric retaining method to put all of the insulation in the cavities...
