I live in NW Washington where we have the highest median net worth in the country. The only manufacturering here is precision high tech, mostly aviation related. We could never find workers to produce inexpensive widgets, it's hard to find workers at $20 an hour.
The $40 Sunex (Amazon) combination wrench set I received from Amazon was made in India. I promptly returned it for a $40 WEN wrench set, made in Taiwan. The quality of the Taiwanese wrenches was significantly better even at $40 a set.
3 sets of work gloves for $30 at Costco. The leather is comfortable, but gets oily in an instant. They were handy this afternoon doing a pita serpentine belt replacement on my son's Toyota Matrix.
These (Taiwan made) Thorsen Professional 3/8 12 point socket sets are on Fleabay for $23. I could use some 12 Points....
This seller also has some sets with a ratchet for cheap.
Are they very good...
I was able to use the 30% off coupon twice...$21 for the pair of Doyle pliers...
I drove past two Harbor Freight stores today as I was driving to pickup a craigslist (dinghy) outboard for our sailboat.
I got a $50k quote to replace my 100 foot sewer line (NW Washington State). We opted to DIY the project with a rented walk behind trencher.
We also replaced the 50 foot water line while we had the machine... total cost: about $900.
Thankfully our property slopes downhill to the sewer main.
I just received these 16 WEN wrenches for $42, from Amazon. Made in Taiwan, they might be made at the same factory as Carlyle/ Channel Lock. They look really similar in finish.
