Low cost IR temp gun - anyone have the HF one?

I have an older one from HF that worked fine for years until I tried to use it to know when my cast iron was hot enough to sear on the grill. My HF thermometer tops out at 500° so I upgraded to this one that goes to 1130°. FWIW both measure within a degree of each other in the 50-110F zone...

    The Mini Bungee Hack

I discovered dealee bob's while I was preparing for a trip to the BWCA. They are really handy, one of the guys I was on the trip with liked them too and permanently "borrowed" several of mine but I still have a bunch of them left. They're great on the canoe or kayak or hiking and camping, but...

Alright leaf people, what's the best way

I was a landscaper for a year, for fall cleanup it was 2 guys with backpack blowers and a 3rd guy running a billygoat push blower, we'd either push them into the woods, or in the center of a yard and vac them up. My yard is a little over an acre, with 12 mature trees inside and surrounded on 3...

    Hammer storage

I just hang mine. I tried the toolbox for about a week but they took up too much valuable space.

    Cost of paving driveway

In early 2022 I had 1500 sq ft repaved and added a 600 sq ft turnaround. MCOL area in the midwest, kind of the edge of the country and suburbs. They dug up the old asphalt and laid down new, the 3 quotes ranged from $8,800 to $12,000, I picked the guy in the middle at $10k because of personal...

Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

I did that once, nearly 25 years ago when I was replacing a clutch on my 88 Ranger and I only remember because my buddy helping me taught me that trick. Never had to do it again for whatever reason.

Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

I came across a deal on these two "wrench breaker bars". I can't recall ever needing one, but I figured maybe one day I will and they were about 75% off.

Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

I keep a very similar one around. It's stored in a drawer marked "screwdrivers" but I'm 99% certain it's never successfully driven a screw. It does get used a lot though.

How would you plastic weld this cracked thin plastic headlight lens/housing?

As long as yo have at least 1/16" clearance I'd make sure the interior was good and dry, scuff about 3/4" on either side of the crack and lay on jb weld. Maybe try to press as much as you can inside the crack as well.

Show us your tool related keyrings

I don't like having much in my pocket so just the one key and one "tool", which is primarily used to open bottles.

Tools you have absurd numbers of

Screwdrivers for me too. I have those original red/blue/clear handle set from Craftsman from 25 years ago. I finally got tired of their crappy tips and replaced them with Kobalt, which were just marginally better so I finally bought a set of Williams. Then my FIL gave me his tools, which of...

    Leaking Log Splitter

I found out Dad replaced the cylinder and the old steel line didn't match up so he replaced it with a rubber line. I think that's the root of the issue with mine. I also lost about 3" of stroke with the new cylinder, it doesn't matter to Dad but with my boiler I can fit really long logs so I...

    Leaking Log Splitter

As suggested I relocated the control valve. Most importantly, I just happened to have a can of spray paint leftover from another project that almost perfectly matches the grey color of the beam for the steel plated I mounted it on! I split wood for about 4 hours on Saturday, no leaks and the...

    2 empty spaces

I'd probably just wait until a project comes up where you need a different size. If you buy 2 right now, you'll inevitably end up needing a 3rd size and THEN what are you going to do when you don't have enough room?!!!

    Leaking Log Splitter

Part of the problem is this solid line that probably kept the valve assembly from moving is gone. And I'm not sure it was that secure of a mounting system to begin with. Looking on another forum I'm not the first person to have this issue:

    Leaking Log Splitter

Thanks. Looks like relocating it shouldn't be too bad, and I think I can turn the handle 180° so I can use the 4 mounting holes already on the valve.

    Leaking Log Splitter

It's just going to loosen up as I use it. I want a permanent fix.

    Leaking Log Splitter

Have this splitter from a now defunct company. I share this with my dad, brother, and BIL, so over the last dozen years I think everyone has done some sort of repair. Here's the splitter: It's leaking on this threaded pipe through the threads on the cylinder return port (circled red below)...

    Impact Driver

This is my 1/2 impact. It zips off my trucks lug nuts, Dad even used it to remove bushhog blades he was struggling to get free with a breaker bar. And yes I use it to remove my lawnmower blades twice a year, and then use my 1/4 drive Bosch impact to drive them back on. I think I paid about...
