    Sears Crappy Shipping Job

It's a variation on a one-wrong-digit theme. Supposedly true story- an RAF storesperson out in the Far East ordered a widget, the supplier said it would take some time, but yeah, ok it will be with you. (This was after a couple of checks back and forth about the numbering) Six months later, the...

How do you fit steel toe boots?

I've been lucky and found that most UK-made boots made in size 11 fit me well enough, but I have a wide foot and any sourced from Europe tend to be a bit tight across the toes. I've now taken to buying 12s in rigger boots and using them as bike boots too; and simply wearing extra socks - which...

    2014 Garage sale thread!

Not so much a garage sale today, but a local market I haven't been to for a while. The place is mostly traders selling Am-Tech and Neilsen stuff (some of which looked nasty, but others looked ok - no way of telling if it's any good until it breaks). Anyway, in the bundles of tools lying...

Need suggestion on audio equipment for garage

My initial foray into better speakers for the cheapy boombox was a lashed-up set of 180W Pioneer set into a pair os wooden salad bowls. They were originally to be used are under-sear/rear infill in the car, yet easily removeable if needed. I fastened them to the walls at either end of the bench...

    Made in Scotland

Nice to see a build in Glasgow, since that's where I'm from originally. Nice build, too.

Need suggestion on audio equipment for garage

No, the output of the phone or wireless link are at Line Input levels which is pretty much an audio standard (I forget what the values are, though). You do get some items which are a bit low on output, though. There might be a hidden output volume setting (or it might be getting fed from a...

    Mice!

I second the cat notion. For a couple of years there were no cats here and the mice were getting a bit cocky. One full-time pet cat came in and did a good job clearing them out, and this past year there have been three in total - the other two of them strays or dumped nearby. They decided to...

Need suggestion on audio equipment for garage

For internet streaming radio I have an old beat-up Samsung Galaxy Europa smartphone (which still works fine as a phone) but its sole purpose is to hook into my house wi-fi and stream internet music. It's jack-connected to a cheapy boombox for the moment. As an alternative I set up yesterday, I...

    Tool Breakage Frequency

Exactly so. The only S-O tools I had that broke in service were entirely unexpected breakages - one was a thin-wall sparkplug socket (on examination the broaching was too close to the edge) which was welded up and is still in use 30 years on (was nowhere near a S-O van at the time and needed it...

    Ad-hoc internal structure

Part 6: Finally, after a bit of putting up and taking down again, got the doors in place for the last time. They're not coming down any more (unless they fall down). I still have to arrange recessed handles and locking devices, but that's easy. Draught-proofing them will be easy too; strips of...

    Ad-hoc internal structure

Thanks Dale; Hah, I noticed the door-roller hangers were showing a slight bend so took them down for a welding session of a bracing angle along the sides. Nearly wrecked myself doing it, but it's sitting better. I'll do the second one tomorrow.

    Below 265 SQ/FT 3x Motorbike Cabin/Workshop - UK

Nice going. Not too sure about the external hinges, though.

    Ad-hoc internal structure

Part 5 Got the timber for the sliding doors - the door track up top is simply 2 x 2 with an edging strip and the rollers had previously done duty on a truck-type thing. Mounted them on spaced axles, bolted them to 8x4 sheets of 3/4? OSB and edged the sheets with 2 x 1" timber. Applied...

lets see your garage radio or stereo

My garage audio will just be a collection of bits from various sources over the years. A Kenwood MP3 (40W or 50W p/chann, I don't recall) CD deck from 2001, a pair of Pioneer door speakers from around then, a pair of Awai home hifi speakers with good cones on them, and a 10" bass unit set into...

How can some of you guys tolerate a cluttered shop?

Heh. I wave my ancient S-O TQ-50A at them - it's got a most recent calibration date of Feb 1943 stamped on it. :D:D

    old gas station pics

Here's one local to me - it was staggering along for a while, then shut, then opened again, then closed for good. All it's used for now is trucks pulling in for coffee breaks.

How can some of you guys tolerate a cluttered shop?

What I've had to redress is the tendency for things to adopt their place because that's where they got put and they got used to being there, iyswim. Not the right place, at all. Now, things are being put in the proper place and after a while that's where they'll belong, automatically. Iyswim :)

Do not try this at home! - Tool Chest Tipped Over

Oh, I did that. What was the undoing wasn't the drawers; no, it was the ferking great lump of an unsecured forktruck jack that slid into the front of the toolbox. ****, I'd spent years being careful with it.

How can some of you guys tolerate a cluttered shop?

GS850 chop? Or 650? Can't make out what the trike's based on. ----- To get back to the main point of the thread - I served my apprenticeship under a guy who was past retirement age and was a total neat freak. He'd been a Rolls-Royce engineer during WW2 and his insistence on clean working...
