    The VISES of Garage Journal

Yes I will thin the herd, just have to determine who stays and goes. Therapy must have worked, I rarely search for vises, and when I do there is nothing available. Don't know if supply dried up or I'm overly picky now. I was on the hunt for a couple arbor presses though and managed to snag a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Why is that? Don't hear too many saying a big bear is their dream find. Mine is in need of attention, the wrench is gone but I have extras. It needs a new bolt made, it's seized and vise gripped round. I'm also not sure the front collar is original, but it looks way too well made to not be...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I am looking to downsize my stack, but that is probably my only fairly rare one. Except maybe the 436 humpback.

Everything you need to know about bench vises...

Big bears came in 4 and 5 inch varieties in swivel and stationary according to an old advert I have.

Snap On impact vs IR - anvil stop, etc

I prefer the MG325 over the 2115. I own both. However the 2135timax I own, and i'm sure the new 2235 both are way cheaper and have more power, not to mention lighter than a MG725 i've tried out. Anvil brake doesn't mean much to me.

    Horizontal air compressor help

Just to give you perspective, I bought a 80 gallon champion horizontal off CL last year. 5hp motor, R15 pump, 1985 tank. Paid 750 for it. Needed a few things like a new gauge, check valve, small stuff. Bought a remote magnetic starter for it so I'm into it for less than 1000 and its damn nice.

Snap on toolbox dilemma, advice welcomed

I would get a vidmar or lista locker or something like that. I picked a few up locally on CL. I would not trade it in and get a new box and a new payment when your box is nice.

Upgrading air compressor plumbing, any advice?

I read this whole thread, very good info. I will be doing a set up in the near future with copper pipe. I will use L pipe and wrot fittings with a 95/5 solder. That should be heavy duty enough without breaking the bank.

    Keep or toss duplicate tools?

I have boxes full of junk tools, that is cheap no name, etc tools. I'm gathering them all up and setting the box on the bench at work. The other guys can have a free for all and the rest is going in the garbage. I'm sick of sorting through all this **** when I need to find something. I don't...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

That is the 6" humpback combo Parker. It weighs 187 lbs if I recall correctly. I have access to a mag drill, yes. As you know rock island is probably my favorite brand so I'm not opposed at all to the 577 option.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The Parker is probably physically bigger (taller) than the 4C. They both tip the scales in the 180 lb range. This bench is not long enough for my dualing Morgan 50 setup, that's for a later date. One heavy bench, one heavy vise. Which one would you want on it?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Since it's quiet, I recently obtained a workbench with tube steel legs and a 1.25 inch thick steel top, so to say it's heavy is an understatement. Which vise would you outfit on it? My choices are a rock island 577, a Parker 436, or a reed 4c. I'm leaning toward the Parker personally and maybe...

Fellow Vise Hunters: Milwaukee Morgan Vises are AWESOME!

A Morgan 45 for $75 isn't bad, but could be had cheaper. At $50 I don't think I could say no. They're very heavy. The 956 should cover whatever you need to do, that's a nice one. What did that guy run you? I am also going to put smooth jaws on the Morgan Chicago 150 and keep the serrated on the...

Fellow Vise Hunters: Milwaukee Morgan Vises are AWESOME!

It says made in the USA on the other side. It's a buy once cry once situation and of course a couple months after buying it I found a Morgan Chicago 150 on Chicago CL. I happened to be in a training class that week and just picked it up on my way home one night. The ultimate plan is a 8 foot...

Fellow Vise Hunters: Milwaukee Morgan Vises are AWESOME!

Vise was 350, swivel base was 100. It's like 30-35% off list and like I said I walked into the plant and paid for it, no shipping. I believe the list price includes shipping.

Fellow Vise Hunters: Milwaukee Morgan Vises are AWESOME!

I went down to Milwaukee tool and equipment last year and picked up a Morgan 150 off the shelf. The swivel base is not attached in the pic. Got a tour and all, super nice guys with great pride in their work. I posted some pics in the vise thread of pallets full of 6" and 8" ers.
