Heard that copper makes a good scratchplate as it is soft and won't cause the tung to break as easily as the parent material/steel.

This picture doesn't look like your prepping/cleaning the joint prior to running the bead? The metal needs to be clean and free of any contaminants (paint, rust, whatever) that could be mixed in the puddle. At the very least use a wire brush.

This specific Witte branded set? Or, the Witte rebranded as Matco sets? All I see on the website are sets with multi-density grips like the rebranded screwdrivers. Always been a fan of Witte, even if their name isn't on it. But, would like to avoid going through my local Matco guy...not worth...
