    Snap-on tool must-haves

+1 on Snap-on line wrenches. I like Snap-on ratchets as well. I wouldn't pay the 'Snap-on premium' for anything that I didn't use a lot - If you're young, save the money and put it towards student loans and stuff that will really make a long-term difference in your life, like savings for a home...

Stanley Black & Decker buys Craftsman

The Craftsman brand will survive - Lawn and garden stuff is probably the most valuable asset that Stanley's getting. I'm not so sure about the future of Craftsman hand tools. I suspect that a lot of the Craftsman hand-tool discussion on this forum is from nostalgic Baby Boomers who were...

Taming loose wrenches in the bottom of a plastic box?

I went with wrench rolls. 'Tool Pak' (US made - www.toolpak.com) has good ones. I have up to 32mm combo wrenches in the 13 pocket one. (My small wrenches go in another roll.) I prefer polyester rolls to canvas ones - canvas ones take up too much space in the box.

    Snap-On **** O Scope MT-615

I think it's cool that it can be powered from 12V car battery as well as from a wall socket. The picture in the advertising brochure of the guy sitting in the back seat of a convertible with an '****-O-Scope' is pretty funny. Can you imagine going for a test drive with that beast wired to your...

    Blackhawk Screwdrivers

Facom has a huge variety of screwdrivers in their catalog - If you want a screwdriver for plain old slotted screws, you can order milled blades, forged blades, round blades, hex shaped blades, stainless steel blades, sandblasted tips, black oxide tips, etc ... A lot of the high-end and heavy...

    Blackhawk Screwdrivers

I got a bit dizzy trying to figure out why so many brands of screwdriver say 'Made in France' on them. Here's my version of the story - Stanley bought Proto and Blackhawk and Mac and a bunch of other USA companies. Facom (France) bought Bost (France) and Brittool (UK) and USAG (Italy) and some...

    Blackhawk Screwdrivers

You're right about the ownership, but the names aren't really connected. Bostitch got its name from 'Boston', which is where they started, Bost got its name from 'Bost Brothers', which is the name of the company's original founders.

    Blackhawk Screwdrivers

Bost used to be an independent French manufacturer of good quality tools - mainly screwdrivers and pliers. I guess they're now owned by Stanley/Black and Decker ... Most of their screwdrivers are still made in France. Their screwdrivers are called 'Bost Expert', and they're pretty good. As...

    School me on crimpers

You've posted a picture of my most-hated tool - it's hard to use and you never know if you've got the connector properly aligned with a crimp of the right depth. A proper ratchet-type crimper that uses dies instead of stamped parts costs a lot more but pays for itself in peace-of-mind alone...

    Stahlwille Tool Thread

I've got a set of Stahlwille 14 series combo wrenches also. They're among my favourite tools. It's their 'long pattern' series, which is about the same length as Snap-On standard series. They're quite light weight and comfortable to hold, but still very strong. I bought mine from Jens Putzier...
