Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

The PVC vents a condensing direct-vent furnace [2-pipe systems are the code here, but in this case, you see a single pipe]. The contractor primed the pipe and assembled it. Except that you haver to both prime and glue the pipe before assembling it. In addition, the contractor completely cut out...

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

I believe it! All that rocket science 95% boiler stuff goes right through my head when someone tries to explain it to me. I'm more suited to heating systems like these:

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

In 25+ years of plumbing the Philadelphia area, I cannot recall a single residential boiler descale procedure. The region uses mostly surface-collected water. There remain in operation former coal-fired residential boilers, converted to oil and then gas, that have probably never had a descale...

Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

Without typical disposal waste, and hold the straight bacon grease, the drain should stay clear. Nothing sticks to plastic. A washout further up the line, laundry perhaps, has kept the line nicely washed out.

Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

I saw a plumber pipe hot water to a toilet once. Talk about a smokin'hot turd! :3gears:

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

The expansion tank sounds like it is fine. They typically outlast the boiler. I know nothing about adding anti-freeze; never had the need; sorry. To purge air, there is usually a shut-off on the return and a boiler drain connection above it. After the boiler seems to be full, you run a short...

Can the furnace be raised to save space?

Many furnaces are "multi-positional" and can be hung. From a service standpoint, I like the cabinet topped with piece of cement board. Many municipalities require the furnace to be raised if in a garage.

    Hydronic baseboard heater near ceiling?

Unknown, Captain. However, dragging the image to the desktop to examine it's attributes reveals this: Orientation: 6 (Rotated 90° CCW)

Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

'Ere ya go. A "Philly Fix" I found one day. Home Depot's "registered" plumber installed the boiler and it never worked right. We were called in to replace it. The homeowner was suing HD [yea, good luck with that!].

That's a notch? I'd hate to see him "take a good size chunk" out of a joist! :lol_hitti

Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

What I'm waiting to see is someone install a gas boiler upside down, removing and flipping around the gas tubes so they correctly gravity seat . . . and using the exposed underside as a griddle.

Why suppliers don't like to sell to homeowners:

At least he bought the good pipe dope . . . rather wasteful, though, with the mess . . . let see . . . Expanding gasses gain heat. Gas pressure is ounces per square inch, isn't it? So if you run natural gas through an evaporator, you can indeed achieve heat gain across the coil . . .

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

All residential boiler relief valves are factory set at 30#. Note: A water heater uses a Temperature & Pressure valve, set for both 210˚F and 150#. I've never known one to confuse boiler and water heater relief valves. The T&P has a temperature probe. To flush the whole system, after allowing...

Found the site when my Ajax floor jack needed a part . . .

Boy, that was a lovely jack. I paid $35 for it, and all it needed was a universal. I put new sway bars and end links on my TL, and the jack made all the difference. Even just changing the oil became a much better experience. Got a question for a moderator: I sent two PMs but they do not...

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

Sorry, I wrote the wrong factory pressure on the expansion tank. It is 12#, as Ron says. The think the pressure I typed is for whole house water booster systems.

    Pressure relief valve leaking again

The expansion tank you check at the Schrader valve. It is probably factory-charged at 38#. If water comes out, the relief valve would be kicking out lots of water. You could open the relief valve all the way up and let it run for a few seconds. Let it snap shut. Then help it seat itself shut...
