The heck is going on here?

Suggestions to get rid of the water, increase drainage, and so forth are spot on, but in many cases impractical or not possible unless using a pump. Dig out, pack with appropriate stone/gravel, use geotextile, be done.

    For the want of a nail . . . err. screw. . .

I thought about buying a knock off carb, but delivery time would be no faster than a screw alone. I would not want the hassle of replacing the entire carb, or taking a chance that if I just used the float bowl screw that it would fit. Kay's suggestion of the metal detector was a good one...

The heck is going on here?

The end of our driveway is like that. The gravel driveway was poorly constructed 12 years ago, but only over the past couple of years we have gotten the liquefaction effect near the end of winter. Our plans to have it dug out and replaced by stone/gravel was thwarted when the guy we contracted...

    For the want of a nail . . . err. screw. . .

No, the horse was not lost, but the Whee Horse tractor was. Long story short, a little venting to commiserate. 4" of snow Sat morn. Good day to plow with my 40 yr. old Wheel Horse garden tractor. 30 min job, tops. Starts right up, stops after 3 seconds. Spark, fuel? (no safety switches). Remove...

I am obsessed with vintage woodworking benches ..I am always hunting for them.....let's see some pictures...I will go first...these are a few of mine

This bench, from the first couple of posts, is odd. Is it a modified teacher's desk or was it made as a workbench? I picked up an oak teacher's desk with the idea of converting to a woodworking bench, but this idea intrigues me. Anyone know anything about this?

Am I being unreasonable for the price I'm asking??

$4k is way unreasonable. Lots of duplicates and worn out tools, even if good brands. You have two types of buyers for the whole lot; a professional and a reseller. The pro could get better tools and no duplicates for less. The reseller would need to do a lot of work to get a profit from it, and...

Debating 40x64 orientation on property…could use some input.

The comments regarding #2 are spot on. We built in a similar way with a porch facing the house. The porch gets a huge amount of use and was worth it even though we had to cut down the size of the garage. The sun comments are also spot on. Our overhead doors face East and when the sun is coming...

What tools did you get rid of today and why?

I have sitting in my garage right now a 5 gal bucket of corded power tools to be left out for free on CL. Two old Craftsman jig saws, a massive old B&D drill, and a Wen AllSaw. All work, but I have not used any in decades. The Wen is cool, belonged to my dad, but is only worth about $10 on the...

Building A Garage/Workshop North of Raleigh, NC - Is Stick Built Pricing This High Everywhere? Considering Pole Barn, But Can't Find Builders

Formerly lived in the Corral Area for Relocated Yankees (Cary), then in the bustling town of Buies Creek. I know your pain, but now back in Yankee land. Here are your options. 1) Build at a super high price if you can find someone and can afford it, 2) Order a pre-fab garage and have it...
