Pressure Tanks n Reserves for long term showers

Are you talking bladder tank or unpressured holding tank (that would need a secondary pump to pressure up for home use)? In my first house we had a well with a pump that produced something like 20 GPM. However, it was hooked up inside to a 20 gallon bladder tank. System pressures were set to...

Treated wood for garage door framing

Only the bottom foot or so of mine is treated (ground contact/critical structure CCA .60) . I clad mine in steel on the outside which came just shy of covering everything. Then, the door trim covers the rest. My man door came primed and I didn't get it painted for a week or two, which has...

Has anyone actually used Dura Panels for ceiling at wider than 4 ft truss spacing?

My 24x36 pole barn is 6' OC trusses as well. I ran 2x6s down the center so I could lay a 4' plywood floor down. Then I split the 12' distances in half again with 2x4s linking the trusses. That allowed me to hang 2x4s in the middle of the trusses so the 29 gauge steel only had to span 3'. I...

Has anyone ever DIY'd a Menards pole barn kit?

I did it by myself for the most part. In retrospect I wish I had paid the $4500 in labor for my 24x36. I rented a skid steer to dig the holes and had a buddy help with that. Mostly solo'd it from there. Setting posts (laminated columns in my case) solo isn't bad if you think it out first and...

Anyone used Northern Tool metal shelving? Ironton brand, $250?

Just FYI, Menards does carry 24" shelving. When I bought mine 5+ years ago all they normally stocked were the 3 shelf versions but it looks like they stock the 3 and 4 now. Edsal 77"W x 72"H x 24"D 3-Shelf Metal Freestanding Shelving Unit at Menards...

Chargers, Chargers everywhere. What are you doing to organize them?

I built a cabinet for organizing part of my collection. It's completely full of stuff now.

Hanging air filtration systems? Waste of money?

I have a 20x20 furnace filter on each side of a box fan running continuously in my shop. I also have a blower fan mounted in a mobile box that I set up with 4 16x25 furnace filters as intakes. I have a Dylos DC1100 air quality monitor. If I run sanders, etc without dust collection on particle...

    Help with small engine

https://www.pure-gas.org/ If you can find ethanol free gas in your area, it's well worth it. I don't use stabilizers, just 100% gas in my small engines. I turn off the fuel shutoff (added one to my snowblower because it didn't have one) and run the engine until the carb is dry. That's it for...

Ideal Door garage door opener reinforcement questions

I installed an Ideal Door 10x8 insulated door in my barn last year (exact model is 10X8_C7X17_White). Working on wrapping up ceiling installation right now (metal panels) so I'm framing out where the GDO mount will be. I read through the manual on door reinforcement, and it says this: All I...

Garage door track hand from single truss

If you're worried about it throw some 2x4s above the track spanning 3-4 trusses. That'll spread the load. Edit, I just looked at the pic again and you already have some. Don't worry about it!

Storing rolls of insulation, new floor

Hopefully the building is sealed against pests or you'll have mice living in the insulation in short order. I will never store insulation again without intending to use it within a week or so.

    Bar Stools for Garage...

I spent a lot of time looking for nice bar stools. My father-in-law have me a Craftsman stool for Christmas one year, but I can't get a duplicate, and it doesn't have a back. I ended up with one of these (and will probably buy one or two more for my different work areas and/or visitors), and...

    Stick vacuum?

How much space do you have to clean? I mounted one of these on my garage wall and can reach almost anywhere in the garage with it, oddly sized 31x21'. I find it much handier than a cordless vac with a lot more suction. Quieter than a normal shop vac as well. I liked it so much I bought...

    Pole Barn Construction timing

I had a guy lined up to do site prep (need about 80 yards of fill). Don't know if he's making more on unemployment than he was as a contractor or what, but he's ghosted me. I've called over 20 places now and have only gotten 2 quotes. One from a gravel pit that has a crew available, but won't...

    Another air compressor question

TSC has some good prices on air compressors. Your choice of IR or Dewalt 60 gallons for several hundred under what the HF unit is on clearance for. Or step up to the 80 gal IR for $1k.

How Do You Store Your Ramrods?

I have a metal rack from Inline Fab for primer tubes. I imagine one could also be made from wood, with a router. Think of a bunch of fingers sticking out that support the handles. Or there's plastic ones for cheap from Tipton. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NAAYW8

What projects are you stuck in the middle of?

There's half a pole barn (columns, trusses, treated lumber) sitting in my garage, thanks to the lockdown in Michigan. The contractor I had lined up to come in, scrape topsoil, and backfill with gravel can't come out, even though he'd be by himself and I could pay electronically. The...

Choosing a decent wall paint at Home depot

How flat and smooth are your walls? The shinier you get, the more imperfections show. Personally I do eggshell in most rooms, but semi gloss in bathrooms and kitchen with mildewcide mixed in. It's easier to wipe down.

    Help with garage vac

A bit late to the party but I've had great luck with Vacmaster wall mounted units. One in my garage, one in my basement, and another for my soon to be built pole barn. Quieter than many other shop vacs and plenty powerful for my needs. Haven't had anything get stuck in the hoses. Remote...
