Thanks. Foreign to me too! I'll eventually get there, just have to be patient. Trying to get the machine running before moving on to the next project....

Has anyone built home made madness YouTube cnc

Whatever is underneath the cutting is going to have a hard life. That's the compromise made having it small/portable vs a water table. Going to make a big mess.

Spent some time on trying to get CNC router to run a program. Did some research, still not successful. The controller should run on generic G-code. I tried 4 different post-processors others have used. The G-code is similar, and looks OK. I tried hand editing the files. It appears that I can...

Spent Friday night attempting to get transmission out of the car. Simple job but many of the items are a PITA, just as I remembered. Driveshaft is really tight fit and won't come out without removing the custom driveshaft safety loop. Exhaust is hammered but not leaking yet. Spent an hour on...

Committed to a guitar finish for the flying V. It has an inlay, so transparent finish. But it comes with R/Y/B/black die so you can make any color. Or all the colors. So still not sure what color... Black gain filler. Gloss, water based. $90

Sure, glad it is helpful. Brake is heavy and I seem to use it exactly 50% of the time, so it gets moved a lot. I was going to add some more storage solutions for various pipe, pucks, blocks and so on, but just moved it back over to where that stuff already was.

And with all that moved the Cobra into the lift bay to yank the transmission. Last time it was out, I had no shop, no lift, no A/C. Every clutch I have ever done was jack stands. Step one is to remove the shifter. I seem to remember thinking it wasn't necessary only to remove it after...

To make more room for the CNC router I decided to move the press back over by the welding table. But first, modifications. The wheeled base for the press was an axle stand base, made of leftovers. It was deeper than it really needed to be, so I decided to cut it down so it could go against...

5S, had to look that one up. Just did that to my entire toolbox setup, need to keep going on my material storage. I had to move around 4 motorcycles and 5 of 8 vehicles to get my car on the lift. But everything is parked inside. Well, my stuff is parked inside. :)

With mower and sander done going to tackle the clutch job on the Cobra. But have to move the CNC router out of the lift bay and make a home for it. The entire north side of the shop really needs to be reorganized. Big undertaking. Will likely do it in stages.

Installed the fuel cutoff on the mower carb and put it all back together. But first yard cleanup and hacked the lower 2-3 feet off one citrus tree to be able to cleanup and mow under it without being a hunchback. Brutally hot now so that becomes almost dark project, but that's why the mower...

Thanks! Just puttering on old junk to avoid some of the other projects that need to get done. Sometimes the small projects are more fun. Small victories.

Got the drive belt figured out and working. Bough a 3" 5/8 bore pulley at local HW store and a belt to complete the system. Makes the overdrive +20%. Couldn't find my old cut belt to measure with, so eyeballed and got a good length first try, 29". 30 seemed too natural, where as 29 is a...

Did another oil and filter change in the riding mower. The oil that came out was perfectly clean. Filter had some fuel in it. Uses same Motorcraft 910 oil filter as two other vehicles in the fleet. Once topped off I let it run for a short time and it smoked some, muffler had some fuel in it...

Thanks. yes hopefully others can learn from my challenges and mistakes. Why someone would spend so much time on a low end sander I'm not sure.

VFD and 3-phase motor on drill press

Used the drill press some and left the display in temperature mode. It doesn't go up more than 2 C even if I intentionally leave it running for awhile between drilling. Left on but not turning the temp is static. Unloaded or typical load current is about 0.4 A, 88 W. Even if VFD efficiency...

Thanks Mike. Have to be extra careful with machines like this. Can get thin material wedged under the workpiece rest, so a quick shutdown may be needed at some point. I spent way to long trying to figure out how exactly to mount it. ended up drilling holes in the base so the wires could exit...

Yes I suppose I could do that. The valve is just on keyed power, supposed to prevent backfire after shut down. But it has always backfired occasionally with or without the valve. The mower gets used all year, frequently so the carb doesn't need to be run dry like other things.

Drained the mower crankcase fluid and put oil back in. Cleaned up the muffler and chassis to make it easier to see what exactly is smoking. Starts and runs OK. Ran for a short time and shut down for oil and filter change. But it runs. I pulled the carb apart and the needle and seat looked ok...

Riding mower wouldn't start the other day, so tried to jump it with the tractor. Would start and run by die after a few seconds. The whole front end is covered in a fuel smelling goo. I just added fuel but tank is almost empty. No puddle. hmmm. Can't put it in neutral so used tractor forks to...
