    Off-branded receptacles and switches

I have no sympathy for that. People need to suffer more from their bad purchasing choices. If the guy fully admits he stuffed up and eats the mistakes. I respect that. But if they throw out a bunch of excuses, not much. I spent 3 times as much time and money fixing my toilet thinking I knew...

Run a 3 phase air compressor on 1 phase.

Prices no no no. Everyone has a different deal based on how power is generated in their area. The German luck. Is that if you buy a 3 phase machine on germany the most difficult thing you will have to do is maybe have an out outlet installed on a circuit. Not run a whole new supply.

Run a 3 phase air compressor on 1 phase.

You guys will have to excuse me. I spend a lot of time on machining forums. The North American 3 phase problem comes up almost weekly. There was even a discussion about how much productivity is lost from people not being able to start businesses at home? I’m not lucky though. For me down here...

Run a 3 phase air compressor on 1 phase.

Great comment! Converted to US dollars I am paying about 20 cent USD per KW/H. What do you guys pay? I have no idea if that is good or not.

Run a 3 phase air compressor on 1 phase.

I wish I had something to add but the need for phase converters and people trying to run 3 phase machines on single phase services seems to be a predominantly North American problem due to your guys infrastructure limitations. 3 phase stuff is often found cheap and the reason why is because...

    Off-branded receptacles and switches

The major brand PDL down here recently released a nice range of switches and outlets that I am going to overtime swap out my current PDL stuff for in my house. They are very nice and modern looking and about the same price as their conventional stuff so you just buy to suit what you want and...

    Why do electricians leave

Yeah I figured as much. When I had my house wiring redone I had a really fussy electrician who even proceeded to ring up another electrician who had done prior work just to let them know what he thought of their work. Haha man that was embarrassing at the time. Some of his rules that he talked...

    Off-branded receptacles and switches

You are building a brand new house and trying to penny pinch on your electrical? That’s where you want to spend money. Cheap sockets and switches are horrible. The switches get all floppy and the sockets loose. Down here there is a brand called PDL. More expensive than pretty much all other...

    Why do electricians leave

I used to work for a micromanager. When we were having the new building built he would be over there every day looking over everyone’s shoulder and commenting on every little thing. One day all the workers put down the tools and wouldn’t continue until he went away. Then after that the person...

3 phase 460v 300 amp inverter welder, what are my options to power it on residential?

Thank you for the clarification. While not industrial as far as zoning. That kind of heavy commercial use would make complete sense. Higher the supply voltage the less current you can get away with.

3 phase 460v 300 amp inverter welder, what are my options to power it on residential?

The reason 3 phase machines can be had at such a bargain is because most people do not have 3 phase so the only people buying them are people working professionally in which case they are more likely to have 3 phase infrastructure or are a small number of serious enthusiasts who have spent the...

First Experience with Vim Tools Ends in Dissappointment

I remember when a Subaru was the ski bum vehicle of choice.

I think it’s great that the filters are off. Now everyone knows exactly who they are dealing with and people have to publicly own who and what they are both the good and the bad. Now everyone is coming to the party that I’ve been at for a long time. I learned a long time ago that if you treat...

I love that I still get to find out about people I have never heard of before. I have thought about doing the youtube thing but I find recording myself to be not only a weird experience but something I almost avoid. I don't know how these people get used to it. Thanks for the article @Ryan I...

    Vintage X-Acto, Exactly, Exclusively!

I know exactly what you mean. Its the same in any hobby though. Take music, lots of people are fans of certain bands and styles of music. But few are interested in music in its entirety. Same in manufacturing I guess. Some people love cars. I just happen to find the manufacture of all things...

    Vintage X-Acto, Exactly, Exclusively!

Someone should start a thread on vintage stationary and office equipment. I would love to see some vintage staplers, hole punches, pencil sharpeners.

Not new news; just recent evidence corded power tools are now officially worthless junk

I was wondering about this thing and did a search and found this thread. Local antique store has lots of old tools. Like anything there are your cheap ones that really aren’t worth buying used. But they also have a surprising amount of made in Japan Makita. They sell for next to nothing. I’m...

Vintage find Sew-Tric 4" bench grinder, variable speed. Anyone know these?

I have no idea what the switches do yet. I don't even know if it works. As soon as I saw it was variable speed I had to have it. I will let you know what the horsepower is as soon as I figure out what on earth "R2G" means.
