    Naked or stained?

    I'd just leave it alone for a workbench. Not sure if you will have any adhesion issues with lacquer may want to look into an oil based product such as polyurethane or varnish. That BLO will likely need a few weeks before fully curing. Wax also works over BLO.

    Drilling into garage concrete floor without hitting metal?

    Wall/floor scanner but wonder if a strong rare earth magnet would have picked that up. Running a compass over floor may also work but probably not precisely.

    best paint stick

    I bought a few in a local art supply they work pretty good for marking engine parts and making reference marks before taking things apart (for example engine timing etc). Believe they were these. Had them a few years and still work.
