Good Tap and Die kit suggestions

At work I use fractional and have the 76 pc Irwin set. It's been good enough for what I use it for. At home I need metric more and only have a small Craftsman set that's been useful, but limited in sizes. I have a car project coming up and figured it was time to get something with more range...

    Portable Workstation

Never seen such a thing before but looks pretty interesting. Too bad they didn’t go into production so we could get some user feedback. I too would like to know if other alternatives exist.

Wright Tool WRIGHTGrip 2.0 on the way

Thanks for sharing the response you got from Wright regarding the box ends. Still, I'm happy with the way the Wrightgrips have performed in the few years I've owned them.

    SnapOn, Craftsman, Carlyle Wrench comparison

If I were to buy another set of wrenches I'd be tempted to get Carlyle since I already have Wright, Snap-On, Proto, Gearwrench, Craftsman, etc... and I'd like to see how well the open ends work compared to the Wrightgrip and SO FD+.

Why Are Raised Panel Wrenches/Ratchets Bad?

Ratchets: Just too clunky and tend be shorter than I like. I don't like the handles much either. Just too many other options out there to bother with these. My favorite ratchet that I use almost exclusively is an SK 40972 1/4. I like the round head, the round knurled handle, and the...

Best socket holder for portable tool bag?

I use the plastic rails with metal ball detents mentioned in post 6. They sell them at Home Depot around me so I started buying those because I hate the metal rails. They work pretty well for me at my job where I do occasionally have to take tools in a bag or tote. If this was for constant...

TRADE-IN any Craftsman hand tool and replace it with a brand new Husky hand tool FREE

My Craftsman stuff is USA made from about 9 years ago and is mostly in one of those 200+ piece sets that I keep in the car trunk just to have something out on the road. I don't particularly like that set (the ratchets ****, wrenches too short and not enough sizes, sockets have the...

    Newly acquired Proto stuff

+1 I have some Proto wrenches (standard and the I-beam ratcheting) that have been pretty good to me along with some screwdrivers and pliers and a few odds and ends. Pretty good stuff. Those Allen brand wrenches look like the Masterforce wrenches they sell at Menards (probably same...

    Best 1/4" ratchet

My favorite is the SK 40972 1/4" flex head. It's a ratchet, speed handle, and thumbwheel, all in one.

    Tool brands ranked by quality.

Screwdrivers: I like my Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver and it's the one I use most. As for non-ratcheting probably Snap-On as well. If I had to pick a second brand it might be Proto. Sockets: Snap-On and SK. Ratchet Handles: SK, Wright, Cornwell all seem pretty good to me. My go-to...

What makes Craftsman hand tools Inferior?

I think Sears is failing because they're more interested in financial engineering than running a retail business. The leadership just wants to gut the company and it's pretty obvious. It's too bad because they could be a good store, but at this point they need to make a lot of big changes in...

What tool have you used more than you thought you would?

Milwaukee m12 5 3/8" circular saw. At work we have the Ryobi kit with the sawzall, drill, circular saw etc and when I used the circular saw I liked how quiet it was compared to my twenty + year old corded Skil saw so I ended up getting the Milwaukee since I figured it would be better quality...

Can Universal Deep Sockets Replace Regular Deep Sockets?

I would just get the regular deep sockets and add the universals later if you still want/need them.

Why is it so hard to find a deep drawer roller box?

I'm guessing the average DIYer doesn't think much about drawer depth, drawer height, cubic inches etc... hence why you don't see those deeper boxes at retailers too often. Plus, as was mentioned, they're most likely to be in a space-limited garage at home and not a professional shop. I'm...

    Masterforce Tool Box Sale

I'm kind of intrigued with the new gunmetal color scheme. Been considering the 56" box as an upgrade to my current box but due to possible changes in job responsibilities I won't need the extra tool space. Still, if I did need something bigger than the 56" I would look at these as an option...

Currently my mechanic's gloves are the black and white heavy duty Firm Grips I got from Home Depot. They're okay for what I use them for- mostly working around hot engines, pipes, valves, etc...

What’s your favorite measuring tape and why?

Never thought about left and right-handed tape measures lol. I don't have an absolute favorite yet. I just use whatever is available. I have a Komelon, couple Stanleys, and some cheapy brand. They're all fine for what I do. Tape measures seem to be one of those things I always need more of.
