So keeping up with loose router bits in the plastic case was becoming a pain, but I came up with a cheap, classy solution. I don't know if you guys have a "Spec's" near you, but in Texas it is a huge liqour store with specialty items like fine cheese, caviar, and a walk-in humidor. Since they...

@drives: I use a set of amplified computer speakers and the Droid Turbo that I upgraded from as my garage audio, otherwise my current phone plus my earbuds when mowing or using saws. A coworker just bought a very nice set of Bluetooth Earbuds from Amazon a few days ago and they have good...

@drives instead of headphones for outdoor work is suggest earbuds. High end headphones will be ruined quickly by sweat and sawdust. Plus the buds do a good job of noise cancellation vs saws, and you can clean them with a couple of qtips and alcohol. The best earbuds I've ever owned have been...

@TwoBytes That router looks to be in great shape and the steel box is awesome. Less impact resistant than today's plastic but 1000X classier. @Jim When you get time I'd be thankful to see your table setup. Your posts are full of inspiration. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

@jimreed2160 I've been thinking about integrating this into a router table, but I may buy a cheap half inch shank router to do so, as I really hate to cover it up. @cheechi Thanks for the report, I was wondering about the quality of the few bits I have. Having never used a router I had nothing...

Last night I had a need for a router ( post that simple project next week when done), so I finally had a reason to break out "The Legacy". http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=4638 This is a Craftsman router left to me by my father in law after he passed last year. JRM was a...

Tote repair looks nice with the 2 tone. It says "I'm not hiding anything, I was saved from the burn pile by someone who saw something worth saving". Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

Jim thanks for the hat rack project idea. It's now on my list, but my space is different so shapes will change. I have too many hats and too little holders.

What type of super tough paint or lacquer is this?

Often those super tough restaurant tables have an epoxy coating. My favorite Chinese place from my youth had these beautiful Cherry tables that seemed indestructible.

It's been a while so I thought I'd check in. I look forward to checking this thread every morning and evening. Planes were a mystery to me three months ago, but now I feel like I've been going to a masterclass daily. Finding a classic plane to rehab has been on my list ever since. The problem...

    Craigslist Dreamers

I'm no authority on Steampunk, I just took an interest in it maybe 8 years back. The mix of modern and antique gadgetry is strangely appealing when done well. If you want inspiration for a machinist toolbox then check out this video: https://vimeo.com/137281498 Google "The Tool Cabinet and...

    Craigslist Dreamers

Real "Steampunk" style is usually very clean, shiny brass fittings/Gears/accessories mixed with well-made leather goods. Picture modern items if they were built in 1905. The stuff you are describing sounds more like the "Rat-Rod" movement, with otherwise cool cars rusted on purpose and repairs...

BJ: That dowel make is a pretty cool tool, and a nice piece of history to own, but I'm betting the garage woodworker could make some fine dowels with a router table and some square cut stock. Just be certain to use push sticks and common safety practices

This is a long shot, but if it's a hurry why not build some wide shrouds (fenders) out of hard board to cover her current chair wheels? She would have the comfort of her normal chair that way. Just a thought.
