I'm sure some of them must be resellers. The clerk told me there are a couple regulars who are hobby blacksmiths that are always looking for larger, older wrenches as they want the steel the tools are made of for their projects.

A few goodies. 1/2, 9/16, and 5/8 S-K combos, 2 Proto screwdrivers, Mastercraft needlenose pliers, and 2 Craftsman =V= 1/2 and 7/16 open end/socket end combos. $10 for all. There was a lot of HF type stuff that outnumbered the good stuff around 10 to 1. Was told to come back in the morning as...

Stopped by ReStore again today. Only find was an amber handled Craftsman screwdriver, but the clerk told me a big donation of old wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. just came in and they will have it all priced and on the shelf first thing in the morning. Guess where I'll be at 9AM tomorrow!

That is cool! Looking at the stuff people were making with their Atlas lathes makes me feel a little meek. I thought I was doing good making bushings, spacers, etc. with mine.

Not to hard to find them in CA, more often than Bonney. I like mine and use them often. Funny it's the same company that makes Barcalounger chairs.

I think it would be cool to make a frame with some weathered old wood with chicken wire stretched across the backside. Then use fine wire to attach old tools to the chicken wire. you could build it to fit whatever wall space you have. I've been wanting to do this as a way to display old truck...

For the lettering, I would use enamel in the little bottles meant for plastic models, then do as was suggested above, paint then wipe off the excess. My tool restoration is usually no more than rust removal and a little 0000 steel wool and oil, then put them to use.

OK, this thread encouraged me to stop by the local ReStore. A bunch of wrenches, screwdrivers, and sockets. I grabbed a nearly complete set (missing 9/16") of Barcalo-Buffalo Barcalloy combos, a couple random Bluepoints, a couple early CM knurled 3/8 drive sockets, and a 7mm-8mm Toyota open end...

I like the look of the Marquettes with all the 50's sci-fi movie looks.

I've been watching this thread to see how that comes apart. Sometimes there is a simple trick to it. Other times the best thing to do is just stop before you tear up something. Glad to see you stopped before that happened.

Nice! I hit our local thrifts but never find any tools other than Harbor Fail stuff. I'm sure the stuff comes in, but our thrifts get picked pretty hard around here. Good score.

My old Atlas lathe has babbitt bearings. When my lathe was new, they were offered with babbitt or roller bearings. The roller bearings were sold as easier to service, babbitt was for higher precision. Any truth to that?

Take it to a swap meet and get $20 for it from someone with more floor space than I have.

Whenever I go to exchange bottles I ask if he has any really old ones. One time he showed me one of the ******** marked ones.
