Seems like a nightmare to pack up an entire garage. When is the last time you moved (your entire tools & garage) ?

I moved my shop of 23 years. Pallets, boxes, shrink wrap and a small forklift were indispensable. And a flatbed trailer and a small enclosed trailer.

Looking for a 36" Top or Intermediate Toolbox

I'm looking for a 36" wide box to set on top of my 42" rolling cabinet. Would like to keep the total height around 18", so I'm thinking 3 or 4 drawers. These are surprisingly hard to find. Most searches turn up dozens of 26" boxes, no matter how I phrase the search.

    Outfitting a Shipping Container

I bought a 20 ft. container with a mandoor on one long side, and a barred window on the other. The door and the window make a huge improvement in the useability of the container.

    GC'S and Inspectors- opinion please.

I would trust your contractor's assessment. I can't imagine buying trusses, or stick framing, to free span the rest of the room, but then needing a load bearing wall under a portion of the ceiling framing, unless there was a load above that roof. But as suggested, some exploratory drywall...

    Garage Door Header question

But you need to understand the roof loading. Might need to beef up the support at the ends of the beam. I have an engineering degree, but I'd pay someone who does this everyday. If you don't get it right, and the new beam sags the new door won't function correctly.

    Garage Door Header question

This is an easy calculation for a structural engineer. I would hire one.

    Elevated slab construction.

My company shop has a 5" thick fiber-reinforced slab. It has no cracks after ten years. We often have a dump truck or truck tractor in the shop for service. It's like building a road- what's under the surface is as important as the surface course. Properly compacted, select fill is the key.

What to do with a 6 foot hydraulic cylinder😂😂

Have you tried selling it to a local hydraulics shop? A shop that rebuilds cylinders? If it's a common cylinder, they may give you a few bucks for it. Otherwise scrap it.

Has anyone built an addition to a Ranch style home

That's a good point. On the other hand, if you have to go higher, I'd go high enough to achieve 9' ceilings in the addition.

Anybody have one of these VEVOR Walk-behind, Hand-Push Floor Sweeper?

I've not had any dust problems when using the sweeper.

Anybody have one of these VEVOR Walk-behind, Hand-Push Floor Sweeper?

I've got one. Works okay but not as useful as I thought. Not easy to use around obstructions like drill presses or work benches that you might have in your shop. For a big open area, to sweep saw dust or granular material, it works pretty well. I've convinced myself that there's a Zen...

    Erosion control

Here's our typical installation on a steep slope or pond damn: hydroseed with seed, fertilizer, lime, no mulch. Cover the hydroseeded areas with double-knit straw blankets. Pin with sod staples. Straw mulch works well for seed germination, but must be crimped or tacked to prevent it from...

Block and Footer Foundation - Insulation and slab considerations, correct details

As for 2x4 versus 2x6, there are smart-framing methods that align the vertical load paths, using 2x6 studs on 24" centers, single top plates, and rafters aligned over the studs. Can offset some of the cost of 2x6's. The 2x6's allow thicker wall insulation and have less thermal bridging due to...

Block and Footer Foundation - Insulation and slab considerations, correct details

Have you looked at the NC building code? It requires either perimeter insulation extending below grade or under slab insulation, but not both. Conditioned crawlspaces in NC don't require floor insulation, just perimeter insulation and vapor barrier on the ground. I just don't think you'll...

Anyone done a DIY wheel alignment?

I would encourage anyone who really enjoys working on and learning about their vehicle to perform an alignment using strings and a bubble gauge. It's not difficult, though you need some patience. My experience is with classic cars where you're only aligning the front end. I started at the...

Anyone build a garage near a utility pole? Trying to figure out how close I can get...

I tried to get a local co-op to relocate a power line. There was no easement on any map that I could locate. The co-op produced a blanket easement from the early 1940's when the area was electrified by the co-ops. The farmer owner had granted a blanket easement that gave the electric provider...

    plasma cutter vs. Oxy-Acetylene torch

I don't use Airgas because of stuff like this. Hope you can find another supplier. If you're going to do a lot of this type of work, you can't beat oxy-aceytylene. I say this having been around heavy equipment for 35 years. OA can do it all. Cut, heat for bending or removing stuck pins or...

    Crusher run=recycled concrete?????

A few comments on crushed concrete: If the crushing is done properly, the material will pass DOT specs for ABC (Aggregate Base Course or crusher run). That means it has the right gradation of fines and larger pieces to compact properly. We built some subdivision streets 10 years ago with...

4 post lift decking for storage

Some great ideas on this thread. Use of the ladder sections is trick. The four-post is one of the handiest things I've put in my company shop. We also use it for an adjustable height work table. I've been getting quotes on a small metal mezzanine, but that needs a set of steps, which take up...

Need recommendations for a good, high-rise, wide, 4-post lift

Have had an Advantage four-post for several years. It's everything that was promised. Great build quality and powder coating. Aluminum ramps are the bomb.
