    Is free foam worth it??

Is that the guy in Tacoma, Wa.? I considered it... said they would ONLY load onto a trailer (load height). It's Poly-Iso and good for concrete walls. Think it's left overs from garage door manufacturing. Finally decided to not be so cheap and bought the crappy 1" foam for $13 a sheet (4x8).

Pouring a small slab for gas pump.

atch: 1/2 bag of Portland for 160# of sakcrete? Sounds like a good plan! rburke65: Theft? Not necessarily... but I just bought a Commercial building in town (small town), and I am right off the Highway. Excellent for traffic, but obviously VERY visable. Just a precaution I guess. I have a...

Pouring a small slab for gas pump.

Thanks! I plan to mount a visable gas pump first. But... found a Red British Phone Booth a while back. THOSE... are solid cast iron and EASILY weigh 1500 pounds! Again, plan for the pad is a rotating assortment of items on outside display (and for sale). 1500 pounds is max. I have a...

Pouring a small slab for gas pump.

Has anyone out there poured a small slab for a gas pump? I have no problem pouring a small 3' x 3' slab. Planning to just use bags of sakcrete, some rebar and forms. Pretty simple. I did a search, but came up with nothing... I need to plan ahead, so slab needs to hold up 1500 pounds. I...

    1930 Firehouse in Hoquiam Washington

tthornto: That is correct. Aberdeen is very close by. I pass through on my way to the coast. It seems very industrial and economically depressed! Bergstrom's in Port Townsend Washington would be my dream retirement! Very touristy town on the ocean, and an AMAZING old building full of car stuff!

    1930 Firehouse in Hoquiam Washington

I thought it was cool! Cheaper than what I bought and BIGGER... (but I am 20 minutes from Seattle). MoparTrucks: Most people pronounce it "Hoe-Kwee-Um". Washington has a lot of American Indian names like: Puyallup (Pew-AL-Up) and Yakima (Yak-Um-Uh). Yup... big project. There is a Firehouse...

    1930 Firehouse in Hoquiam Washington

I just saw this old Firehouse for sale ($65k) while surfing classifieds. It's not mine and I am not trying to sell anything... Pretty cool old building! Looks like maybe close to 3000+ square feet on the main floor. Upstairs could be a pretty cool living space. The lot is only 7000 sqft, but...

    CAT6 Security system

I am a little late to the game here... but just installed Cat5 on the recommendation of BIL who is licensed commercial electrician. Had the same conversation Cat5 vs Cat6. Bought 1,000 feet of Cat5 for $58 bucks. Came in a big cardboard box with a hole in the side to feed the wire out. Bought...

Best way to frame and insulate 1 car detached garage?

K'ledgeBldr: Yup...polystyrene. I went over it with R15 batts on one side. I did talk to a garage door manufacturer that sells bulk ISO that is left over when they cut out windows. Any updates BrooklynBravest?

Best way to frame and insulate 1 car detached garage?

BrooklynBravest: I am doing something similar right now. I have a cinder block shop, bare walls with a second story (16"oc joist ceiling). On one side I glued rigid foam to the walls, then framed 2x4 16"oc, then R15, then 5/8" sheetrock. R25 on the ceiling. On the shop side I am gluing 1"...

    Insulated roll up doors?

Never considered roll up doors... I am getting ready to do a divider. In the planning stages, but leaning heavily towards 3-4 sliding sections. Not ideal, but I will likely use rigid foam core (2" or thicker) with thin panel over it. Will hang them on the "Barn Door" type industrial roller...

    RaceDeck Install

Pulled up my flooring (some of it). No problems with the foam under lay. Some dirt and stuff, but no moisture or mold. Plan to pull up the rest (currently putting up rigid foam, 2x4 framing, then batting in new shop), will see if there is any moisture or damage, so far no problems.

    RaceDeck Install

I used "Big Floors". 400 SqFt + edges and transitions was $853.80. Of course that was 2-3 years ago... Foam has not been a problem. Again, will look when I pull it up soon.

    RaceDeck Install

I used the foam. My flooring is not race deck, but one of those generic companies. (Big Decking, Big Dog, something?) Have had ZERO problems. Love the flooring and it was DIRT cheap 2-3 years ago. Enough to do a 2 car garage was under a grand. Attached is a pic of the foam I used (For...

"Country Club" for Car People? "The Shop" Start up in Seattle

. Matt_i: Pretty sure this place is NOT for hard fabrication. The investors are probably intentionally targeting people who won't miss that annual membership fee anyways...LOL. RubberRodder: I agree with you on one point... snobbery. But, I got over that. When I lived in Puyallup, the guy...

"Country Club" for Car People? "The Shop" Start up in Seattle

Sorry, I meant that 60 years ago... you could learn to be a machinist (apprentice) in High School. Then, the natural transition was to become a tool and die maker. Since the 1920s and 1930s, there were more machinist jobs than talent to fill them. MANY High School graduates (and drop outs)...
