    Truck Shop Ideas...

Also finally building a shop for my truck and doing the floor next year. Did a dozen or so years with log truck and still have it. Backhoe, farm tractor, the odd dump truck and pickups ect. Always worked on them outside in the gravel which was ok in my 20s but not now. Have put off floor until...

How about a scissor lift in a pit?

Don't know how to link other threads but August 10th there was a thread on here titled "pit floor". Was link to a video of farmer that diy'd what you are thinking of if I read you correctly. It went high enough to reach bed of pickup to load parts. Very interesting.

    Radiant heat for radiant cooling?

I'm no expert by any means but a friend of mine built a new house about 5 years ago. Cools real nice all summer. Uses wood boiler outside. Circulates all evening and maybe the daytime too. Zero moisture problems , might be climate dependant? About a 1200sqft story and 1/2.

    Ears Ringing after using Machinery

Second or third putting earplugs all around your shop. Also safety glasses. I have good quality hearing protection and safety glasses but buy the cheapies by the box and leave them everywhere so never an excuse. Always have at least a couple pair of plugs in my work pants. I'm a trucker and work...

    Air compressor location

Used to keep the compressor in the basement laundry room plugged into dryer plug. Attached garage. But separate shop in the new place. Loved it there. Always warm could never hear it. Family hated it. They could alway hear it!

    Air compressor location

Almost on topic, for those of you that have compressor inside and use a muffler on the intake, how much reduction in noise? Approximately. Like 10%, 1/2, can't hardly tell it pumping? With a car type muffler do you want it to pull air in the same direction as it would if it was exhausting from...

    steelspan shop new post

Thanks for the reply autoclassicnut. 70's is plenty good. Most negative reviews I've read are from people that have never actually tried it. Could be some in my future.

Tree Pushing and Dirt Work Advice Needed

Did the pad for a 30x46 on an acreage I own. Needed to take out 25 big fir trees. They were dangerously close to a powerline so hired a faller with proper insurance and permits to work next to the lines. Cost me $500. Friend of mine is going to saw the logs for me so can subtract a bit from that...

    steelspan shop new post

Great thread autoclassicnut. Thanks for sharing your build. Just finished putting the last arch up on a 30x46x18 "X style". Finally. Sooo tired of bolts! Now that you've made it through your first winter and we're into the hot season again are you still happy with your insulation choice? My end...

    Creative uses for "junk" wheels?

Been using one as a base for a yard sprinkler for last 30 years or so. Can be on a 45 degrees angle and happily pulses away and never falls over.

New House: Would You Insulate Foundation?

And if you are searching out used and it's not part of the inspection the insulation pieces really don't even have to match. Just get them where you find them.

New House: Would You Insulate Foundation?

Super easy and fast to do yourself. Super cheap too if you do it with used. Just did both sides of foundation of shop with 4" thick 2'x4' pieces. Got them from a chicken barn being torn down. $2 each. Bit of an odor until they were backfilled and never to be seen or smelled again. This is in...

    used shingles use?

Right on, couple more good ideas been posted here. Retlaw 66, how many inches of rock on top of the shingles? Any problems? 20 years between concrete and wood sounds like a success story. Been using some in the alley behind the fence at my current house. Neighbour on one side grinds off mower...

    used shingles use?

Thanks for the replies. I'm guessing it's a nutty idea for the squirrels then. They won't go to the landfill though. Weed duty for them around the shop and also under some vehicles parked in a field. Currently have some roofing tin that's needed on yet another project stored under the camper van...

    used shingles use?

Tried a few different search phrases on here and the web and no answers. Results were just about recycling ground up shingles while I'm asking about whole shingles ONLY. Has anyone here used (free) asphalt shingles under a gravel driveway or shop floor? Long story short I'll be reshingling the...
