    Milwaukee m18 3/8" impact- steal

So here's a newb...er...question for you guys with more experience. Northern Tool offers the M18 Fuel 1/2 in hammer drill/driver and the 1/4 in hex impact driver with 2 batteries (combination kit) for less than the cost of the 1/2 in impact driver alone w/2 batteries. $399 vs $429. I'm a...

    Milwaukee m18 3/8" impact- steal

Has anyone used a code + gift card offer with them before? When I entered the code, a message pops up saying it's not good with other offers, gift cards, memberships, etc, etc. I submitted a question in to find out, but someone here might know.

    Prentiss 181 questions

Drivesitfar: I haven't figured out how to insert photos into the body of the reply, so I'll attach them. I intend to post the Reed restoration once it's 100% done... Thanks! -Lombie

    Prentiss 181 questions

Thanks, Filson. The Dayid site is sometimes online. I referenced it last week when it was up and the 181 isn't on the list. I'll have to check this Prentiss out in person. Not worthy of suckage at $100, but better than most deals in my area. Regarding the WTB swivel pin. I purchased the...

    Prentiss 181 questions

Hello, Looking at maybe picking up a vintage Prentiss 181 combination pipe vise for $100. Only considering it because, other than the missing replaceable pipe jaws, it appears to have been well-loved. Still need to check it out in person, though. My questions are: -Does anyone know if or...

The vises of the USS Midway

We spent the whole day on the ship. It was amazing. They've opened up a lot of the ship for viewing and it is staffed with very knowledgeable volunteers who have first-hand knowledge of naval vessels. The bridge tour and the boiler room were highlights... God bless our sailors and soldiers.

    Athol Vise

Welcome to GJ, bookum55. There are some vise experts here who can probably tell you anything you want to know about your vise if you can post a few photos.

The vises of the USS Midway

So we visited the carrier museum USS Midway last week and I had to take a couple of pics of the metal shop and a few of the vises that I spotted on her to share with GJ. Couldn't get close enough to handle them or even identify any model numbers, unfortunately. 1) A nice Reed on the...

    Kitchen Sink Info Recommendations

Check into the granite sinks, too. When we did our remodel, we installed a 50/50 split Schock Hauser granite sink and it not only looks awesome, but has held up very well. No scratches despite abuse from lots of heavy cookware.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

+1 I think the prior negative comments are for the 5 mil gloves. The 7's, for me anyway, work (and fit) great.

Neat product for driveway expansion joints

I just redid the expansion joints around the stem wall in my garage and at the front of my home. Used Sika Self-Leveling Sealant and Sika Closed Cell Backer Rod available at Home Depot. Comes in a few different colors and was easy to lay. Just needs a mostly flat surface due to self-leveling...

    Lets Talk about power washers

I think the same unit is currently on $30 rebate at Costco. $299 - $30 = $269. Or buy online and they tack on $110 for delivery. Not the greatest unit out there, for certain, but an amazing value at $270, especially with Costco's warranty policy. -Lombie

    Vise restoration questions

Wow. Good to know. Guess I'll use grease instead. Appreciate it, jakemac. zkling, it's a 404A. I can't find any info out about the A model, but I guess it's a variant of the 404R. Some of the vise gurus in the forum think it's circa 1930's. The main nut may have a date stamp, but it could...

    Vise restoration questions

Thanks. When only 2 answers come in on a topic about vises, you know it's a poorly worded question or needs pics...or both. I didn't have a pic when I posted. I was referring to the chamber on the inside of the dynamic jaw that surrounds the main screw. It sounds like ganymede figured it out...

    Vise restoration questions

I am in the process of restoring an old Reed (pics to follow) and have a couple of questions. My friend has access to a bead blaster, but I'd like to put more sweat equity into the resto, as it's my first one and I hope to pass it on to my son. I've already spooged the vise parts in an...

Reed 404A arrived - Did I screw up?

Thanks to all for your feedback. I think I'm going to leave the jaws in their current condition. They've lasted many, many years in tougher service conditions than I ever intend to put them through. Also, I take some personal satisfaction in the reminder that, while vintage vises may...

Reed 404A arrived - Did I screw up?

Wanted to post a couple of pics of the bead-blasted swivel jaw to see if naked pics add any clarity to the repair vs chipping issue. Couldn't resist posting few pics of the pin that I had fabricated for it, to replace the lost original... -L

Reed 404A arrived - Did I screw up?

Online, I can only find reference to 404's and 404 1/2's. I haven't found any others marked "404A". Wondering if that helps ID the age? -Lombie

Reed 404A arrived - Did I screw up?

Does anyone know if there's a certain year where Reed stopped printing dates on their vises?
