building a small gantry crane or jib

Here's a thought. Go tankless. I converted over a year or two ago- saved an acre of space in the house and have unlimited hot water. Thing's about the size of a suitcase on the wall. I keep seeing folks spend a ton of money on their garages with this great big cylinder taking up precious...

    Plastic versus metal recep/switch boxes

Thanks all, for a lot of info. I may be using shop lights that have a 6' BX pigtail. Can I use that pigtail into a plastic box? Or should I run romex supply to metal boxes? And, since I have the attention of experts here- I may be using a suspended ceiling- can I use romex up there? The...

Picture Request - OSB Interior Walls

That's my question- is it not a fire hazard to line the walls of a shop space with flammable material? Even if the wall is not shared with a living space- won't the space burn MUCH faster with OSB than gypsum? fn

Ok here we go- a single car mess

Inside measures 13x22. Spent some time migrating out of the Craftsmen box to the Torin. Shed is done, need to start moving boxes out of the garage, and organizing the boxes in the process.

    Floor Strength...

I have an existing concrete slab in my backyard on which I'm considering a two-post lift. How do I know if the concrete is to spec? House/slab was built in 1962. I was a very young child. An infant, really.

Many questions: Ceiling, drywall, electrical, lighting

OK- deep in planning. Currently, (see images) the ceiling is open, with joists 48" apart. There is no insulation in the rafters. I'm using the "attic" area for long-stuff storage, but have alternatives for that. I'm considering ceiling solutions, and would appreciate your input. The garage...

    Bond tite 1101???

another trick- if you like the brown look on concrete, scatter the entire surface with Ironite fertilizer and a some salt- I used Kosher salt. Wet it down, let it sit for a while, then wash it off. The iron content rusts, staining the concrete. I did this on our boring patio slab several...

Ok here we go- a single car mess

Hello! I'm SO hesitant to post this- it a huge commitment. But here it goes. Bought this home about 8 years ago, had the garage alternatively a mess, then perfectly clean, then, upon the arrival of my 1970 F250 resto/mod, totally messy, then my KTM resto/mod really killed it off. Parts...
