Solar water heating? Where can i learn more?

So im interested in learning more about solar water heating. I eventually want to have radiant floor heating, and the way the garage and roof is designed i get direct sunlight from sunrise to set more or less. Im curious what is involved, i have a basic understanding, but i like details. I may...

Portable Propane Heater? What should i look for?

The one thing i really liked in concept about it is that i can easily wheel it over to where im working and point it in my general area. I honestly don't think it will warm the entire garage quickly, but keep me warm enough where im working to not need a coat and gloves.

Portable Propane Heater? What should i look for?

I may have found a great deal on a heater and 100lbs tank on cl. if not ill pick up a tank top and call it a day. On a side not I started foaming around the horribly installed windows. For now im going to put a huge tarp or plastic over the loft opening. Its large enough to lose all the heat...

Portable Propane Heater? What should i look for?

I agree i need some serious heat for my garage, yesterday was below freezing by far. I don't mind working with some layers, but when im in my thickest work coat and im still cold i have an issue. I like the second two you posted. especially since they are collapsible for packing. Are the...

What floor is right for me?

Doesn't sound to bad, I think i decided on tinted concrete, polished with a top coat to protect it. Then i can always refinish if it gets burnt or chewed up. Fastback: good point on pulling motors on tile. Im sure its not tooo bad since i've done it in a badly finished driveway. At times...

    Insulating garage with open celing

After i have my roofing redone i will be looking into this as well. Im in the same exact situation being that my garage is an old barn converted over. I want to keep as much loft space as possible.

Portable Propane Heater? What should i look for?

Im looking to buy a propane heater asap! For now its going to be the main heat source in my garage. Its 24x28, has an opening to a loft where the heights point is at-least 20ft. Not to mention horrible insulation. Im not planning to keep it running all the time, just take the bite off when im...

What floor is right for me?

Im not concerned about the jack, or jack stands since a lift is going in there. My concern is dropping tools and such. I know if done right they won't crack under heavy loads for sure, but the sudden impact of a small dense object can ruin my day.

What floor is right for me?

I like the over troweled look. Maybe with a blue. Is there clear epoxy's that can withstand harsher chemicals. That way if welding slag burns through it won't look as bad since its just clear anyways.

What floor is right for me?

@ FASTBACK. Is that just color added and power troweled? Is it slick when wet? Thanks for all the responses guys. So many good options, im still jumping back and forth between what i want. I did decided that protection is first on my list tho, so i don't mind the refinishing every couple of...

Wood floor removed and replaced with Slab?

to be clear, the garage is actually 3 floors, a basement like area that has 2 garage bays, a second story that has 2 more bays, and a third floor loft. First pic shows the 2 lower bays: This picture shows the upper 2 and window to the loft.

Wood floor removed and replaced with Slab?

Yes its the garage in the avatar. Its actually going to be the floor to the left picture. It will be supported around the perimeter by foundation. The shop is an old barn converted over, and never made to support the weight of vehicles on the upper 2 garage bays. The previous owner then had one...

Wood floor removed and replaced with Slab?

Im replacing the second floor of my shop with a cement slab that will be held up with I beam, and so on. I know an engineer will have to do the planning, but who do i go to for the work? Regular construction company? They normally have their own CE to plan it correct? Im curious what to search...

    garage too small for lift?

What floor is right for me?

Leaning back towards epoxy again after speaking to someone here at work that had a race shop. If im really going to work in the garage, and not keep it as a show room then, just be concerned for the concrete underneath, and consider the epoxy as a disposable long term protection. Also the more...

What floor is right for me?

Ok so i've atleast narrowed out racedeck.. Having to concern with putting something down when welding is a deal breaker. Im to lazy and will forget. I think i've ruled out epoxy as well. I'll ask a buddy who has it in his shop how it holds up to his welding. He doesn't do too much welding, but...
