Forged Steel Products Co. Vacuum Grip Pliers Thread--Pre Snap-on

Found a No26 from the Newark days today at Rogers flea market (OH) for $1. I didn’t have an example of this model, though I do have a couple similar ones. Wasn’t sure of age till I got some rust scraped off. Looking forward to doing a careful conserve when I get back home. EDIT - all cleaned up:

$4 spent on Amish-prepared coffee and doughnuts, another $4 on tools this morning at Rogers flea market, Rogers OH. I found the little Tom Corbett-ish figure in the mud, the pull chain was also free. So $1ea for solid brass 3gang switchplate, Vacuum-Grip No26 slipjoints FSP Newark NJ, Utica...

You **** for $20/all! I bet if I saw that Fisher anvil, it would be marked $20 by itself.

Wow, we’re staying just 7mi outside of Columbiana, birthplace of Harvey Firestone and HJ Harrold Tool Co! I should have brought my pliers and screwdrivers for a minihomecoming.

    Red Devil Hand Tools

This JAK-NIFE was gunked-up enough, I didn’t realize it was missing a screw until I went to put it back together. I probably have something that’ll work, but it could take a while to find. I am happy to have found a Red Devil blade in it, though!

    Mystery Vice Grips

Last weekend, I was delighted to acquire a No11 for $5 from a flea vendor who generally prices things a bit high for me. It had some black crusty blotches that looked like expanding rust but wasn’t, and they were sticking closed (spring wasn’t pulling jaw open), so maybe that was the reason...

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

MrsLS gifted me a pair of Boker Treebrand utility scissors (top) on Fathers Day. Today I compared them to two Wiss 1KS. Firstly, they cut paper just as well, which is not the case with the Japan or Taiwan versions I have. Secondly, the contrapposto handles allow a lower attack angle over a work...

Good SciFi books, @WisJim ! I remember reading both Zelazny’s Amber series and several other of his novels, McCaffrey’s Pern series, and Niven’s Ringworld series. Have not read original PKD, but of course, love the film adaptations.

Yeah, I have another slipjoints with this mark somewhere and knew the mfr once upon a time. I just tend to forget whose mark it was. I picked up the SKILTWN just out of curiosity. It also has a part number. 29525 does not come up on the SKIL website, but maybe it’s just obsolete.

Pliers; How Many Is Too Many?

I don’t think so. The Enders/Shapleigh/Simmons Oak Leaf has nine lobes, and is horizontal. This has four lobes. I think overall, that pliers looks German-made.

    Spreading the Bonney affliction!

eBay provided a No21 set of E- 40, 42, 44, 46, and I was quick to break it up and put the E40 and E44 under glass today. Still subbing one latter-day E40.

Apple Translate offers “creation record” for the first, smaller characters (at least those in green rectangle). The rest does seem to include Musashi’s name - 宮本 武蔵 - (yellow rectangle), bracketed by other characters. There are approximately 6000 kanji characters in regular use, but (including...

That’s a Bonney if you didn’t know. It won’t say “Bonney” on it, but probably has forged-in date code in the late 1930s - early 1940s.

Bethlehem PA estate sale. Pics showed a lot of hand tools, railroad lanterns, bottles and jars. Missed the 9am opening because a lag in GPS response time caused a few missed/wrong turns and five miles out of my way. (I’ve been having connection problems with my phone/provider for months, but...
