Need help with ID: 3-drawer tool chest

Haha! I had a screwdriver handy and wasn’t expect that much paint to come off, especially that easily!

Got impatient and cut the three drawer liners for this chest. Still need to finish removing paint and crud from the corners before priming and painting.

    Cheap garage ceiling ideas?

Maybe radiant barrier? Easy to install so long as you have an air gap between the insulation and the barrier, you’re good to go. Just need a staple gun. Much cheaper than other options in terms of material costs. Plus, may give you a bit of heat blocking and reflective insulation.

Need help with ID: 3-drawer tool chest

I’m finding it somewhat relaxing to slowly take each drawer down to bare metal. That said, I’m glad there are only three of these drawers and the rest of my setup only need the drawer fronts stripped and repainted.

Some elbow grease and patience: Picked up additional poly wheels at HF yesterday so I can finish this.

The Evaporust has worked really well with the exposed rust. It’s also loosened up rust that had started to build up under the paint layers. After pulling it out of solution and rinsing it off, I was able to scrape away the peeling paint with a flat tip screwdriver. You can see the many veins...

My Buddy | Disston rolling cart & top chest

My Buddy | Disston rolling cart & top chest I also ordered a couple cans of this SprayMax 2K Glamour High Gloss Clear Coat. Recommendation from the guy who sold me the snap-on mobile cart when I told him I’d be restoring it for myself. I haven’t used it yet but I’ll update when I get to...

In reading through some of the Craftsman gray and red toolbox posts, it looks like the closer color for the frames is Rustoleum Hammered Gray. Lucky for me, Lowe’s had the 12oz standard spray paint cans on “clearance” for $4.50: I think they’re replacing them with these 11oz new style sprayers:

That’s a nice setup and looks much newer *and* nicer than mine. Is yours about 27” wide? This one is 36” without the side table tray, and 37” wide with the handle.

Good to know, thanks! I’ll need to sort out opening the drawers to get a better look at the busted rail to get a better idea of the issue: the rail or guide. Then inventory all the parts and bits that will be needed before I give them a call. Or I can just just ship it to you, right? [emoji6]

Thanks! This is really helpful info! Since the box is going on 40 years, I’d be happy to know any parts I need to replace are still available. May I ask what a lifetime warranty code is? Would that be on the receipt? Or stamped into the box?

After I brought the tool cart to my friend’s place, I couldn’t open the drawers. I thought the owner locked the drawers before we loaded it into the truck, but when I emailed him, he said he left the key in the top drawer. (I can hear it in there.) He said the same thing happened to him when he...

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/tls/d/roseville-craftsman-toolboxes/7273886928.html Not mine. There’s a top and rolling cart combo for $375, and a separate 9-drawer bottom box for $300. (I mis-read it originally.) I didn’t see the Sacramento one earlier but combo doesn’t have the mid box...

Need help with ID: 3-drawer tool chest

It seems the extensive rust had become somewhat structural to the box. [emoji23]🤣 Now that the rust has been removed, I’m able to wiggle it side to side with some slop. It’s not too bad, but there are a couple of corners where I’m guessing some spot welds have rusted away? Hmm, maybe I need...

Oh, I missed this reply. I definitely misspoke. I consider the handle caps and drawer trims replacement parts to order for sure. You and I agree there. If there’s a busted slide, I’d hope they could replace it but yeah, I should’ve been more clear about what I wanted to order as replacement...
