    Need a 4000 rpm drill

Interesting, totally different of what I had in my mind. I'm somehow familiar with steam turbines which are used in ships for propulsion and power. Gas turbines, I've seen only one on yacht when I was working as technician (not for them). Jet engines? I don't have clue about them. Although...

I'm interested to see how that valve looks. Power plant you say, so generator(s) is(are) driven by gas turbines?

Best Snap Ring Pliers: Knipex Precision vs Gedore

In a short, you won't miss with neither of them. It's only matter of personal choice. At home I have knipex precision and like real tool polisher I have not used them yet. But I bought them because I thought noses are a bit longer than Gedore and profile look thinner so I can reach rings in...

How common are security fasteners ?

Yesterday I had to fix espresso machine and I stumbled on torx with security pin. I don't have these tools so at first I thought I won't be able to open it. But since they are screwed into plastic, I tried with small screwdriver and managed to unscrew them all without problem. I think that I'll...

    Industrial Mechanic tool list

Didn't know that. From my perspective that looks very... hmm, harsh. Anyway, just for comparison. Several years ago, I was working as technician for marine diesel engines on yachts, which where mostly caterpillar, mtu, john deere, maybe few cummins. My employer provided all, car with tools...

    Industrial Mechanic tool list

This is what I was surprised when I joined GJ and realized that in America, employee needs to bring its own tools on the job. I'm from Croatia and in my country it was always employer who is providing tools for the worker. Not only tools but also working overall, shoes, gloves (if it's bigger...

How often are hex bit sockets over 10mm-3/8 used

I'm currently maintaining MAN HIMSEN diesel generators and I have couple plugs on casings for oil filters that require larger hex keys. I don't remember now is it 14 or higher. Also on, these engines have some plugs that require custom 3/4 sockets which are something like 40mm. Didn't used them...

    Compressor flywheel/pulley install

Hammer some wedge into split, lubricate shaft with something like WD40, use puller and hammer wheel from sides while puling it. I would try like that.

    Just a brass bar?

Sometimes I use zinc bars if I don't have brass at hand. It is just important that bar is from soft metal so it cannot damage steel parts.

    snap on torque wrench

Or pins that goes into holes, but when you apply force the handle can be slightly twisted and stetting changed. But that's why some models have such design where handle is free to rotate and does not affect setting.

Help choosing a Thread Restorer Kit.

Not so simple when you try to repair stainless steel bolts or bores, or smaller shaft threads.

    Wera Zyklop ratchet alternative?

Same thingy like one that wurth is selling. And since wurth is just rebranding it's probably same manufacturer. I was working with wera zyklop 1/2. Quality is good, it's just that I don't like these ratchets. I always think that it will unlock or slip and that I will hurt my hand.

    Felo Tools, any good?

Well I'm not from USA so unfortunately those sources are not available for me. Interesting point with Wurth. I guess their screwdrivers are then from Taiwan where somebody is mimicking Felo style. Maybe it's good quality but Jure mentioned that he broke several PH2 screwdrivers on his job...

    Felo Tools, any good?

Where did you bought them and what's the price? I see that Wurth is selling them under their name. So they are not so good? For what you use them, auto moto, something else?

    General ratcheting technique question

It's just the way it goes. I usually screw bolt/nut with fingers, or I hold socket with fingers, or I press ratchet down with hand/fingers. Depends on the position of bolt/nut. Or other conditions. Like temperature in my field of work. Sometimes bolt is hot even trough gloves and I cannot screw...

    Interesting wrench

These are pretty common on merchant ships. I love them, they are robust and heavy duty, long handles for extra torque and easy to put cheater pipe on. Spike used for aligning holes on pipe flanges. Ratchets come in variety of sizes.
