Yeah that's definitely the sensible thing to do. I've done it before and it's taken a good few weeks to feel right again, and the a few months to get back to proper strength. Will take it easy for a week or two, then focus on little and often rather than the monster days that caused it this time!

Sticking with the ridge beam design, you could section the roof up so most of the area has trusses with just the area directly above the lift being a ridge beam for height. You'll still need strong beams for either end of it, but it drops the proportion of the roof held by the crossbeams down...
